Whenever you are out of station, or even out of Country, or in other words are roaming, the data charges on mobile connections seem to be go sky high. And it eventually hurts a lot. So, in this post we have some tips for you to save some of those cents which your mobile carrier might steal from from you whilst you are roaming and using Mobile Data.
Don’t Use Data:
Well, this is one of the simplest ways to prevent data charges while you are roaming. Don’t use any data services, or in short reduce your data usage to the minimal level. To avoid accidental use of your Mobile Data, simply switch it off. You can switch off your Mobile data, by navigating into Settings> Data Usage/ Mobile Data and then just check off the box.
Be Wi-Fi Hungry:
You can go Wi-Fi hungry if you need to access the internet and do some tasks while Roaming, instead of doing it on your Mobile Network. Just search for some Wi-Fi zones nearby, like McDonalds and just stick to them, complete your online tasks and move on. This can save a lot of money and has a very good impact on your bills. Also, using Wi-Fi will save you more battery time compared to using Mobile Data on your Smartphone.
Disable Push Notifications:
If you have to use Mobile Data where there might not be any Wi-Fi zone around, you should always try to minimize the data usage. You can do that by disabling the push notifications that arrive in your Notification bar. Also you can switch off the Auto-Update feature of your apps as this can always be done later when you reach your home. You can disable push notifications by navigating into the Settings menu, and then “Apps”. Doing so will help you disable each app notifications manually.
Get A Plan:
Prevention is always better than cure, and in the same manner before setting off to travel, you can always buy a Mobile Data plan which will completely minimize the data charges as you will then be operating on a Plan. Or also there is one more alternative, you can buy a SIM card at your destination so “Roaming Charges” would not be applicable.
So those were some of the general tips to save Data charges on Roaming. I hope this helped, and yes do not forget to hit the share button!

Hi Umpreet,
Roaming is a pretty big problem for me, considering I travel a lot via my car. I go just about anywhere in the U.S. and constantly will have a problem with getting my phone to connect. Thank you for sharing these tips, I think I just might just get a plan that allows roaming,

Hi Umpreet, I must say you picked up a very important topic to talk about. Roaming charges worry all of us. You are right about taking a plan while traveling out of your circle. It helps you stay connected to those back at your place and save money while doing so as well.

I agree with you about looking for a WiFi hotspot instead of consuming your data plan. This will save us a lot and what do you know the Internet connection in that establishment can be a lot more faster than our data roaming. 🙂
Good work!
