Is Technology Changing the Face of Human Resources?

The recruitment industry is developing at a rapid rate with a report by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation stating that it contributed £35.1 billion to the UK economy in 2015, 9% more than the previous year. Swift advances in technology are affecting businesses in more ways than we can imagine, ranging from an organizational adjustment to a workforce demanding mobile and remote job opportunities. If Human Resources wants to remain a vital player in helping businesses anticipate and manage organizational change it must have a technological core.

Millennials currently make up more than 50% of the current UK workforce and is predicted to make up closer to 75% by 2020. It is for this reason that HR has to embrace technological advancements in order to meet both business requirements as well as employee expectations. Workplace analysis and talent analytics will become more common with companies making use of the data available to them, gaining a competitive edge.

Here are some of the technologies that are changing the face of HR.

Clean up your office thanks to cloud

The cloud is one innovation that is changing Human Resources in an enormous way. Collecting and storing data has always been a huge part of the functioning of HR within a company and, until the introduction of the cloud, necessitated the use of hard drive spaces, filing cabinets and piles of paper. Today all the information can securely and effortlessly be stored in the cloud and accessed online as required. Sensitive employee information such as payroll data, tax forms, contact information and performance reviews can organized and archived in one central location.

Give employees access via mobile technology

The security of the cloud makes it very easy to limit access to information. At the same time, however, cloud-based mobile platforms allow individuals to access information more easily than ever before. There is no longer a need to email the HR department every time you need to ask a question about your pay or benefits.

Mobile HR apps make it increasingly simple for employees to access this kind of information anywhere and at any time. It also makes life easier for HR officials who are no longer required to spend extended periods of time performing tedious tasks. According to Advance Systems Inc, employee self-service applications are able to provide both on-site and remote workers with the flexibility to access their schedules and manage their leave online, saving the company both time and money.

Despite the potential negative impact it can have on them, many companies are still hesitant to switch to modern-day HR systems.  As the workplace adjusts to the influx of new technology, HR has a lot to anticipate in terms of easier storage, greater transparency and better insights. Due to employee expectations, improved efficiency and cost savings the importance of embracing technology is simply too significant to ignore.
