Launching a website is a very important aspect for every business. However, in case you are scouting the steps to accomplish this, you need to understand that the very first step is choosing a great hosting service. There are quite a few options for you in this regards. All the information you collect will point out that, of all the plans in the market, a dedicated server hosting will give you the maximum ownership on your server.
Yet, the most important considerable question is whether your business needs a completely dedicated hosting service or you might scout other less complicated options? Here is an analysis that might help you understand your stand on this issue.
Dedicated web hosting- Defining characteristics: Let us begin by evaluating dedicated web hosting- What is it all about? This is an internet hosting service option where the client temporarily leases an entire server. During the period of the lease, the client individually owns the server and no other company or business can share on it without the client’s proper consent.
Needless to point out, the service awards the client full rights and total control on the server- Operating system specifications, choice of hardware, internet connectivity, monitoring specifications and any such pertinent points of considerations included.
Options in dedicated web hosting: Dedicated web hosting is a broad category option in your search for a web hosting service. Even in this category, you have a choice between two major types- Managed dedicated servers and unmanaged dedicated servers.
Managed dedicated servers, as the name suggests, have a host that manages the core technical server maintenance and update related issues. As such, the repair, maintenance, and regular security and cPanel updates does not remain a hassle for the client anymore. This option is ideal for clients who lack the personnel or the knowledge of extreme technical details related to server hosting.
Unmanaged dedicated server is completely the clients’ ownership and responsibility. They are responsible for system maintenance, software updates, installations and other faculties related to server administration. If you are experienced in these details and/or have the proper intelligence to handle the various tasks related to server system analysis and support, this is an ideal web hosting service option for your business.
Potential of dedicated web hosting services: Without doubt, the option of owning (temporarily) your very own server has a lot of potential for your business, if you know how to play it up to your advantage. Here is a look at what features you are due when you do opt for dedicated web hosting services.
Resourceful- this is probably the biggest advantage of leasing your own server, you can forego all the disadvantages pertaining to shared web hosting services. Most share web hosts advertise their service as unlimited storage and bandwidth resources. However, in reality all, the control is in their hands so they decide when your website has exceeded average storage limits and they might even close your accounts in such a case.
They can also slow down your website’s uploading speed, if your site uses more than a set limit of bandwidth. With a dedicated web server, you decide your CPU and bandwidth. Considering that no other sites share on your server, you have no issues with the speed limit. For this sole reason, many big websites are ready to go for dedicated hosting without thinking about the price. But if you’re not able to afford it yet, you can always find discount deals for webhosting from big names like Yahoo and
Increased security- shared web hosting services host multiple sites on the same server. As such, a simple hacking in to the server or any of these sites puts all of the sites in a risk. A dedicated server can be outfitted with customized firewall and other high efficiency antivirus software installs.
Flexibility of choice- Many of the options regarding operating system choices and software installations are restricted in shared web-hosting services but with a dedicated server, you get the full control on every decision regarding your server. Also, the dedicated web hosting service do not cater to overwhelming lists of clients and as such have a more focused service plan.
Do you need a dedicated web hosting service- A checklist: The answer to the question is subject to your business status and the extent of your need for complete control over your internet connectivity and hosting. Here is a checklist to analyze your position concerning the issue.
- You just want the above-mentioned web hosting advantages for your own business.
- Your web portal deals with important and high-risk information, e-commerce solutions, or generally sensitive data.
- You have a high traffic website, in which case a shared web hosting service will further slow down you upload features.
If you consider that, your business covers all the above-mentioned points, switch to a dedicated server. However, it is advisable that you wither acquire the personnel or the proper knowledge for server support to best handle you website. Most dedicated servers charge a higher monthly installment than any other web hosting service plan.
In case, you apply for an unmanaged server, employing the services of a hired host will cost you extra other than the server charges and installation fees.

I don’t think that most sites need a dedicated hosting plan, honestly. Hiring someone to manage the server and to make sure that it runs correctly is going to be more trouble than it’s worth for most companies.

Hey Kenneth, I’m sorry I don’t know any web host located particularly in Croatia. But why do you want your web host to be in Croatia to build a website? All you need is a webhost and everything else is remote, right?

Definitely, dedicated server is a better option to go with, as it offers several benefits that often lacks in shared hosting platform. Basically, cost concern is the major issue that prevents companies to opt for dedicated servers, which is generally not seen with shared hosting as the cost gets divided amongst users.

Nice post Jane. I’ve been thinking about getting managed dedicated hosting, but I think I can wait a bit longer. Probably I’ll get it when I reach a certain amount of websites and traffic.

You know it’s interesting – I’ve actually had quite a bit of luck with hosting services like BlueHost – To me it’s still not worth it to get dedicated hosting, but maybe if my traffic were up higher I’d change my mind.

I want a web host that the service is satisfying. I’ve been to hostgator and bluehost but they are just too expensive (money doesn’t matter) but i’m not satisfied. So right now I am looking out for a new web host that would make me smile at every end of the day.
