Google Debuts Nexus S Phone

Google/Samsung Android Nexus SJust over two years after the launch of the very first Android phone, Google’s battle for the mobile phone market continues, with the recent introduction of its Nexus S phone in America and the United Kingdom. The Nexus S, which is designed by Samsung, is the first Android device to come with the latest version of the Android OS, Gingerbread (the fifth major revision of the platform), less than a year after the HTC-built Nexus One debuted, with the hope that it will make it more competitive with other smart-phones such as, Nokia’s N8, the BlackBerry Torch and the HTC Desire HD.

According to Googleblog, Gingerbread is the fastest version of Android to have been made so far. It comes with a series of improvements such as, refined user interface, NFC support, a new keyboard and text selection tool, Internet (VoIP/SIP) calling, improved copy/past functionality and gyroscope sensor support – used for gaming and Internet calls whenever the phone is in range of a Wi-Fi hotspot. As part of the Nexus brand, the device aims to deliver “unlocked, unfiltered access to the best Google mobile services and the latest Android releases and updates.”

Furthermore, Nexus S will use new and increasingly popular technology such as the Near Field Communications (NFC) – a short-range wireless technology that makes it possible for users to read information from NFC tags such that their phones can be used as a travel ticket,  make small payments and get more information about advertised products in real-time. Also, Nexus S is the first smart-phone to use a 4-inch Curved Display designed to fit comfortably in the palm. It features a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, front and rear-facing cameras, 16GB of internal memory to make it more responsive.

Nexus S will initially be offered for sale by Carphone Warehouse in the UK  and Best Buy in the US.

I wanted an iPhone but now I’m confused because I want a Nexus S phone too. The Android operated smart-phones are great and they normally have a lot of great updates. I have heard of the NFC technology before and it definitely makes me want to get the Nexus S phone for sure.

I like this kind of phones, but I don’t own one yet. I’m interested in this Nexus S, because it seems reliable, intelligent and it has many useful applications. I think I’d be satisfied with it!
