June 2014, made its mark in history where 50.3% of all e-commerce traffic was through mobile devices and tablets. Simplistic – more people used mobile phones or any hand held device to visit online stores as compared to using desktop computers or laptops. Data from 100,000 ecommerce stores using Shopify platform showed these results:
- 3% from Mobile Phones
- 10% from Tablets
- Mere 49.7% from Computers
We all, somewhere down the line expected this day to come sooner or later – and mobile trends anticipated this well in advance. No more disputes on this as mobile commerce is now the default way for people to shop online. This certainly means that it is the time for you all to look out for those Shopify Setup Experts who can help you successfully launch your online shopping business or may be help you flawlessly migrate your existing shop from another platform. They might tweak a template or design something from scratch to create your beautiful, customized online store.
Shopify also contended the race, where they tracked mobile traffic and implemented tremendous changes to boost up their operational efficiencies in mobile ecommerce direction. They then immediately released two of the iOS applications namely Shopify Mobile and Shopify POS, followed with a mobile phone optimized check out and renovated their storefront themes making them more responsive.
Adding a feather to the hat; Shopify is all set to make shopping; a convenience with help of Google Wallet. As mentioned, most of the traffic on shopping portals comes in through hand held devices including mobiles and tablets. Identified challenge with them is that they do not end up checking up from their mobile devices – might be a cause for abandoned shopping carts and diminishing orders. This might be one of the major reasons why Shopify integrated Google Wallet with itself.
Google Wallet, if I may brief you, allows online shoppers securely store their credit/debit cards with Google, enabling them to quickly checkout from all online stores displaying the button “Buy with Google”. So here the shoppers instead of plugging in their credit card or debit card numbers, billing and shipping addresses on the mobile keypad – virtually very tiny – can select the “Buy with Google” option and promptly checkout with help of their Google credentials.
Hana Chang, Head of Commerce Platforms, Google said “Typing shipping and billing information on mobile devices can be a difficult experience, which is one of the main reasons why mobile shoppers abandon their shopping carts. We’re working with Shopify, the leading commerce platform, to integrate Google Wallet and make checkout on mobile devices as easy as two clicks.” In this first phase Shopify announced that eligible Shopify Merchants across United States; now may accept payments from customers using Google Wallet.
Wait not – this is a golden opportunity to raise the count of shoppers on your e-commerce website and let your cash registers keep ringing.
