CBD Oil to Combat Anxiety: How Does It Work?

CBD is on the rise in many areas. Celebrities, athletes, and medical experts are using CBD to improve their quality of life. Recently, there has been a movement made up mostly of mental health experts that advocates using this medication for different mental disorders and conditions.

But we are going to concentrate on a single condition: anxiety. Yes, science backs it up. CBD is effective in relieving anxiety. But, before you start looking for where to buy CBD online, you might want to know more about CBD and how it works (only to have an informed answer if some sceptic asks you dismissively why you’re taking it).

Besides, you can learn more about the legal cannabis market by clicking here.

Let’s start with CBD first: what is CBD?

CBD is the abbreviation, or acronym, for cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is a chemical compound belonging to the cannabinoid group, of which there are more than a hundred and counting.

Cannabinoids were so named because these chemical compounds are found in the Cannabis plant. CBD, for example, is found in higher amounts in the Cannabis Indica strain. The other strain of marijuana, Cannabis Sativa, contains virtually no CBD but does contain THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), a psychoactive chemical compound. This one has great recreational value and alters your mental state.

CBD: a natural anti-stress and anti-anxiety agent

Our modern societies are particularly stressful. What’s more, the world health crisis is upsetting the balance of our organism. Thus, social isolation, economic uncertainty, increased living costs, stress and anxiety are growing in the UK population.

These disorders affect our mental health and weaken our quality of sleep. In addition, this state of growing stress can generate anxiety attacks, which then push the most fragile people to take powerful anxiolytics (tranquillising drugs).

With the anti-stress plant cannabis Sativa, nature offers us an excellent natural anti-stress and anti-anxiety remedy. To fight anxiety and stress, the powers of CBD are naturally amazing!

Stress is a natural process and is intended to ensure our safety. However, it can quickly degenerate and become excessive. In the long term, this dysfunctional response can lead to anxiety disorders, panic attacks, and even social phobia in some people.

CBD stimulates the endocannabinoid system

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a major player in cellular homeostasis. Because it regulates various functions essential to the body (blood sugar, blood pressure, body temperature, etc.) by releasing endocannabinoids (anandamide and 2-AG), however, their concentration varies in pathological situations. This results in chronic diseases (such as irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia, and migraine).

The CBD molecule reconnects the endocannabinoid system.

Indeed, cannabidiol, by reconnecting the CB1 and CB2 receptors, stimulates the production of endocannabinoids, which has the natural effect of improving the circulation of anandamide while limiting its degradation. In the human body, the latter plays a role in the perception of pain (nociception) and anxiety, and depression. CBD is, therefore, a natural anti-stress agent that contributes to the improvement of your stress state.

Did you know that the term anandamide comes from the fusion of the words “ananda” (meaning bliss in Sanskrit) and “amide”, relating to its chemical structure? Therefore, it is also called the pleasure molecule.

How does CBD help with anxiety?

First, you must define anxiety, which is not precisely easy even among the most informed. Stress and anxiety are closely related and are therefore often confused. Stress usually has to do with things that happen outside of us – there is a traffic jam and we are late for work or an appointment: we get stressed; there is a pandemic and we don’t have money to pay rent: we get stressed.

Anxiety, on the other hand, takes place inside us, in our minds. There is a traffic jam and we can’t get to work: we start thinking about the repercussions, a dismissal, a fight with our boss, the looks… Our body tenses, we sweat and we feel cold.

That is, anxiety causes a physical response. This is a list of some of the symptoms caused by stress and anxiety:

  • Sleeping problems
  • Irritability, moodiness
  • Increased heart rate and blood pressure
  • Extreme perspiration
  • Difficult to focus
  • Headache, back pain, stomachache, etc.

How to use CBD oil

For generalised anxiety:

  • Take at least twice a day. Recommended three times a day: morning, afternoon, and night.

For panic attacks:

  • Given the arbitrariness of panic attacks, it is recommended to maintain a constant dose of CBD to prevent attacks and, if they do occur, to be buffered. A small dose (1-2 drops of CBD oil) is recommended in five applications throughout the day: morning, mid-morning, noon, afternoon, and night. If there is a panic attack, apply three drops directly under the tongue and hold the oil there for a few minutes, which helps it take effect more quickly.

For anxiety in social situations:

  • It is recommended for those who suffer from anxiety when they have to expose themselves to social situations to take a dose of CBD oil one hour before exposing themselves to it. If, for example, your work requires you to speak to clients from time to time or give conferences, these specific situations are easily handled with CBD oil an hour beforehand.

For nighttime anxiety:

  • It is recommended for those who suffer from anxiety when trying to sleep to take a moderate dose of CBD oil, preferably an hour before bedtime. In this way, you arrive already relaxed to bed, and it is less likely that anxiety assails you when you sleep.

As you can see, there are many applications of CBD oil and there must still be many to discover. Just visit some online store, for example, Justbob, where you can find a wide variety of CBD oils and other related products to help you with your anxiety.

Anxiety is a vicious cycle. So, the first thing you should do is reduce the symptoms to focus on the root cause of the anxiety. Nobody says it’s easy, but things like CBD oil help a lot.
