Lamborghini is an Italian automobile manufacturing brand. The company is known for its automotive excellence and is considered one of the most prestigious car manufacturers. Lamborghini doesn’t mass produce cars like other brands, for example, Honda, Toyota, etc. They launch a specific number of cars and car models for their small target market. However, this doesn’t mean Lamborghini cars don’t sell. There are a few Lamborghini cars that have done big numbers compared to other supercars from the brand as well as its competitors.
Let’s take a look at some of the most successful cars of the automotive giant Lamborghini.
Brief History of Lamborghini
Lamborghini was founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini in 1963, in the city of Bologna, Italy. The company was initially named Automobili Lamborghini and was formed to give competition to Ferrari.
In 1970, Ferruccio Lamborghini sold Automobili Lamborghini because of financial issues and losses in other businesses. The company kept changing hands until Volkswagen Group bought it in 1996. From then onwards, Automobili Lamborghini was rebranded as just Lamborghini, and the company has remained under the Volkswagen group ever since.
The logo of the company features a bull. Ferruccio wanted the bull on the company’s logo as it was his star sign, Taurus. The company has some cars named after or about bulls as well. For example, the Lamborghini Miura is named after the famous bullfighter, Don Eduardo Miura.
Most Successful Lamborghini Cars
Lamborghini has had a lot of successful cars. However, these cars top the list in sales and popularity:
The Lamborghini Miura
The Lamborghini Miura is the first supercar Lamborghini made. The car was officially launched in 1966 and hit the roads in 1967. Lamborghini initially planned to manufacture 50 units, but the response to the car was so good that the company bumped up the production to 100 units.
The Miura was powered by the powerful V-12 which had a torque of 490 Nm and 430 horsepower at 8000 rpm. A distinct feature of the Miura that made it stand out among other supercars was the triple plate clutches at the driveshaft. The gears from the crankshaft powered these clutch plates and were on the left side of the car when it was originally unveiled.
Lamborghini Gallardo
Not only was the Lamborghini Gallardo made immortal in Eminem and Akon’s hit track Smack That, but it’s also widely believed to be Lamborghini’s most successful car ever.
The Gallardo came with a 5.2L sports V-10 engine, producing a torque of 540 Nm and 560 horsepower at 800 rpm. It was one of the fastest cars of its time, going from 0 to 100 km/h in 6 seconds.
There are a lot of special versions of the Lamborghini Gallardo. The AS or the Spyder concept saw a Lamborghini Gallardo as a convertible. It was also called the speedster version. Other editions of the car were also launched, for example, Performante, Superleggera, etc.
Taiwan, Malaysia, Panama, Indonesia, Dubai, and London all have special Lamborghini editions with slight cosmetic changes. The car was discontinued in 2012 after the launch of the Lamborghini Huracan.
Lamborghini Aventador
The Lamborghini Aventador was officially launched in 2011. The Aventador is the highest-selling Lamborghini model powered by a V-12 engine. The engine produces a torque of 695 Nm and 730 horsepower at 8000 rpm. The car can reach a top speed of 352 km/h and can go 0-100 km/h within 3 seconds!
The Aventador is a 2 door car but it’s not as compact as previous Lamborghini models like Gallardo, Miura, Etc. However, its aerodynamic setting and streamlined body cuts through the wind and produce more downforce which makes it faster than the rest of the Lamborghini models with more road grip as well.
The Lamborghini Huracan
The Lamborghini Huracan was launched in 2014. The car was supposed to carry the V-10 legacy of Lamborghini after the Lamborghini Gallardo was discontinued and it didn’t disappoint.
As mentioned, the car comes with a V-10 turbocharged engine that produces a torque of 600 Nm as well as 600 horsepower at 8000 rpm. The car can shoot up to a top speed of 320 km/h and can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds.
It has a lot of additional features like ABS braking, climate control, cruise control, etc. It also has 6 airbags for the safety of the driver and the passenger in case of an accident.
Many people dream of driving these prestigious supercars, however, only a few can afford to buy them. One great alternative is to rent these supercars and fulfill your dream.
