Budgeting Time For Blogging In 5 Easy Steps

blog

Having a blog is pretty easy but maintaining a successful one is quite a challenge. All bloggers run into the issue of not having enough time to finish all of their daily tasks on their blog. At some point, we all realize that there is just so much to do and not enough time to do it, so we have to manage our time correctly to get as much done as possible. The key isn’t to try and rush everything just to get more finished, but to keep a steady routine that will ensure our success. Rushing a blog can be one of the worst things a blogger can do because rush content will only end in disaster.

Prioritize The Things You Should Do

There will always be a very long list of things that you “should” do. Our goal is going to be prioritizing that list into things that are most important. The most important ones should be given a high priority than the tasks that can always just be done at a later date without having much consequence. Depending on what type of blog you have, what strategies you are using, and what you have already completed will determine what you should still be doing.

Some examples that most blogs will have to go through is working on their SEO, check emails, respond to any comments, update content management system, post more content, use better images, write an eBook, interact with all of their social media profiles, guest post on other blogs, and plenty more. There is a never ending list that every blogger will encounter. So once you have the whole list of things that you want/ should do, prioritize them and then focus on the more important ones before moving on.

Create Content Well Before It Is Posted

A big issue that bloggers run into is trying to create content and then posting it right away. This should be avoided at all costs because if you create a piece of content that isn’t as good as you would want it, you don’t have any backups and also you don’t have enough time to make another one. You should try and always create your content days before you post it, that way you have time to make changes, update it, or create a whole new post if you need it. Also, in those situations where you are unable to create something due to writers block or personal reasons, then you have backup content you can still post for your audience.

Set a Certain Amount of Time for Content Creation, Marketing, Interactions, Etc

You should be spending a set amount of time for each category within your blog. For example, setting an hour to handle your social media profiles, an hour to create some content, 2 hours responding to emails and comments, etc. By doing this, you won’t end up wasting all of your time focusing on just one aspect of your blog while you neglect the rest of it. We all fall into those traps, where we get all excited about a certain aspect and then decide to spend 10 hours on it, only to realize that we still have so much to do on other parts of our blog.

Find Your Routine

Once you have started to get a routine going, make it permanent. Try and do all of your blogging efforts at the same time each day as well as in the same order. The more you make yourself get used to the routine, the easier it will become to finish your work in the future. Our minds are powerful things, so it is important to understand that once we become accustomed to doing certain things each day, your brain will automatically get into gear and know what to do.

Take Breaks

The last step is to make sure and set your break times. While it might seem more productive to just have a 9 hour blogging session every day, you are going to burn out. Make blogging an enjoyable experience and take the breaks that you want. Watch a TV show, go exercise, clean the house, or anything else you want to do. Just don’t go without giving yourself a break.

So true Ness – there is always an endless of tasks waiting for a blogger. As you say, during my early days of blogging I used to write a blog post and publish it right away. Now I realize how stupid it is and if I re-read those blog posts after a week, the grammar and content formation would sound really crazy.

I find that having content written upfront, giving enough time to proof read and edit them and schedule them well in advance will take the stress away and prevent publishing half-baked content!
