FishText Review

For those who send lots of text messages from mobile phones and computers, FishText could save you a fortune. I bumped into it when I was at University and was seeking an alternative to the expensive tariffs of my phone contract provider. This unique service allows users to send SMS messages for almost nothing from a mobile phone or computer that is connected to the Internet. Depending on your network provider, you may be charged a small fee or nothing as the program only connects to the Internet for a second or two to send messages. FishText has outstanding live coverage all over the world with more than 200 countries listed and prices vary from between £0.010 and £0.040 depending on the location and mobile network of the recipient (s) while it is free to text other FishText users. For example, 10 text messages can be sent for just 20p or £0.020 per message in the United Kingdom.

Another FishText service is the provision of virtual (UK) mobile phone numbers without any direct association with a telephone line thus enabling subscribers to send and receive text messages on their chosen number. Virtual Numbers cost £10/€15 and are valid for one year from the date of purchase, at which point it can either be renewed for the same amount or allowed to expire.

Purchasing a virtual number or adding credit to a FishText account is easy and can be done by simply logging to your online account and clicking the ‘Purchase’ button and you do not have to worry about monthly deductions as users are allowed to keep their credit forever.  Payment can be made by credit card, PayPal or Google Checkout. Other options are available on the mobile phone application account.

Summary:

The program is easy to use with simple design and navigation. Text messages are always delivered and delivery reports are recorded online at no extra cost. FishText’s wide coverage means that it is very easy and cheap to send SMS all over the world from anywhere even during office hours. Furthermore, sending FishText messages from a mobile handset is very straightforward. All that is required is installing the application on your device from their Web site and use normally. An additional feature means that you do not have to retype your mobile contacts into the Web site instead they have provided a tool that automatically connects to the address book in your gadget. If you are not convinced yet, FishText gives you a free 20p credit to sign up for free and try it out with an additional £5 free credit if you top up for over £20.
