Voice Interactivity and Siri – Eyes on the Road and not on iPhone

siriiPhone is still the popular kid on the Enterprise mobility block and in the consumer world. Though the Android OS has the major chunk of the world wide mobile phone sales, the iPhone is still looked up to as the beacon of light in terms of perfectly crafted mobile OS and device.

Apple Inc. proudly announced its SIRI Eyes Free at the WWDC 2012 that intends to integrate the feature of voice interactivity in automobiles. The promise of this SIRI feature shaking hands with the automobiles came from the leading major brands of the car industry namely, Audi, BMW, Chrysler, GM, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes, and Toyota. The GM stepped in first with this integration in their Chevrolet Sonic and Spark.

For the curious tech geeks and the car admirers, if you are wondering about the connection of the Siri with your means of transport, it is an amalgamation of the mobile technology’s voice command button that will be mounted on your steering wheel and you’ll be able to ask Siri questions without taking your eyes off the road! As the popular argument goes, when you drive, you just drive and not operate your handhelds; this technology doesn’t even require you to see the device. You can seamlessly operate the iPhone in your car just by talking!

Siri and iPhone are now getting symbiotic and breeding the next generation connectivity and augmented reality. Asking your iphone to call people, select and play music, hear and compose text messages, use Maps is just as simple as ordering your assistant to fetch the information. Apart from the services mentioned, Siri doesn’t shy away from providing you the details pertaining to your calendar information, adding reminders and read your notifications without any touch or seeing your iphone. Not only this technology aids a better road sense, it need not require you to do your multitasking while driving.

So iphone lovers, you will be pleased to know that your cars will soon be given the SIRI eyes free feature as a default sooner or later! The Apple Inc will soon make this a reality as it is liaising with the automakers in order to take the mobility into automobile industry. For the curious onlookers, you could have the feel of SIRI Eyes Free in your car with Mobile Home that is brought to you by Texas-based Beanco Technology. This rectangular clip offers the SIRI Eyes Free functionality to your Bluetooth-equipped car! The mobile home may be intimidating but it is definitely your one stop destination to get the SIRI eyes free feature on your favorite vehicle.

It is always a long wait if trending technologies have to be implemented into automobiles and hence to have augmented technology or voice based technologies into a car comes with its own set of challenges and therefore the delay in having the Eyes free as a stable feature. But the media buzz says that days are not far off when the person next you is doubt full of whether you are talking to him, your phone or yourself!

I am amused with how the mobile industry is growing into IT and non-IT enterprises. With mobile application development evolving every day I love to follow its path and write about its adventure in the field of healthcare, retail, insurance, field force and consumer solutions.
