Electronic transactions have grown so common that it has managed to integrate with our everyday lives. It allows us to travel continents and cross oceans to reach into the places that hold the goods we so dearly desire. The price of moving past such boundaries is not even equivalent to its cost, because all you need is your computer, a reliable Internet connection, a payment account, and a healthy shopping appetite for everything that can be bought online.
The merchant’s behalf is much more complex compared to that of the online shopper. It involves putting up a website and taking the risks of trading your products online, but you realized that the gamble is worth it in the end because you are establishing an identity in the international sphere.
Either role you play, you cannot keep looking at the bright side of things and dismiss your safety. There are security measures you can take to truly make the best out of electronic transactions, and that are possible through online payment gateways.
Introduction to Online Payment Gateways
Payment gateways are the best choice for an online entrepreneur. This payment scheme allows you to accept credit cards securely and make your business stand apart from your competitors. It provides buyers and sellers more than just security, although that is their ultimate aim. It verifies the identity or the legitimacy of the people you are trading with, so you do not have to worry if you are spending your time and money on a scam.
Your privacy is a matter it has taken under its prowess by protecting your credit card information as it travels over the internet. This is possible because financial institutions will have to permit your transactions.
Different Modes of Payment
Since you are now operating internationally, it will be best for you to avail different modes of payment. Merchants easily lose potential buyers when the store cannot process the kind of payment the buyer uses. Do not expect that everyone will prefer and use the same methods. Along with your debut to a bigger market must come the readiness to cater for every kind of need there is. Fret not, because these things only sound fancy but are, in fact, easy to avail.
P-to-P
This is one of the simplest among the bunch. If you are an Internet user, then is safe to assume that you already own an email account. Person-to-Person transactions eliminate the complicated process of sending cash, even through a credit card. All you need is an active email address.
Online shopping is another story, though. If your agenda is anything but to transfer funds to a family member in need, there are purchasing details you have to be cautious of.
Merchants are required to own software that employs P-to-P payments. The money used to purchase your goods will be pulled from the buyer’s P-to-P account, and before anything else ensues, permission must be received from the financial institution employed by the merchant.
This is a precaution that will benefit both the buyer and the seller alike.
Smart Cards
There is a good chance that many will find smart cards a convenient alternative. It is a card embedded with a chip where all your payment activities are made possible. It can process customers’ financial data and can even download applications that will aid you.
Like in credit cards, users must own a PIN that only they can know.
Merchants will need the help of a smart card reader that is connected to the Internet.
E-cash
For users who do not have any plans of making online shopping a hobby any time soon, the use of electronic cash is for you. It is money converted to an electronic counterpart that can supplement a couple of the alternative methods mentioned here.
Digital Wallet
It functions in the basic principles of a wallet, only the computers and the Internet are the ones storing your confidential information for you. It allows for effortless Internet surfing and purchasing because the data in your wallet is automatically used to fill out online forms and order slips.
Be a wise shopper and a credible merchant by using online payment gateways. Apply payment methods that are beneficial both ways, and can serve as a good investment for future endeavors. Further security measures would be to utilize credit card processing for E-Commerce merchants that can shoulder the technical aspect of business for you.

I think getting a debit card or a paypal account is safe. However some online stores like amazon don’t accept paypal. That’s why get a debit card instead.

I always recommend to use online wallets to transfer money online. Personally I use Paypal and Moneybookers and I have a special debet card only for my online earnings. It is much safer. Constantly change the password and don`t give your personal information to people you don`t know.
