Nexus 7 showed the world that Apple wasn’t the only company that could tap into the tablet market. This fall, Google upped the ante with their 10-inch Nexus model, aptly dubbed Nexus 10. One of the biggest questions techies (and stock analysts alike) are considering this holiday season is whether the Nexus 10 will prove to be a major competitor for the almighty iPad.
Nexus 10 Basic Specs
- Starting Retail Price $399 (16GB model)
- 4.2 Jelly Bean OS
- 1.33 pounds (603g)
- Google PlayStore
- 2560 by 1600 resolution , 300 ppi
- 10.1-inch LED-backlit Multi-Touch display
- Front and rear-mounted cameras (5MP rear, 1.9MP front)
iPad Basic Specs (iPad 4)
- Starting Retail Price $499 (16GB model)
- iOS
- 1.44 pounds for Wi-Fi, 1.46 for Wi-Fi + Cellular (652 g/662g)
- Apple App Store
- 2048 by 1536 resolution, 264 ppi
- 9.7-inch LED-backlit Multi-Touch display
- Front and rear-mounted cameras (5MP rear, 1.2MP front)
Both tablets do well in performance tests, and their specs are not alarmingly different from one another. Stacking them up, here’s a take on which factors should matter most to the general consumer.
Size
Winner – Nexus 10
Nexus 10 is slimmer, lighter, and just a smidge bigger than the full-size iPad giving it a slight edge in the size factor.
Connectivity
Winner – iPad
The iPad, unlike the Nexus, offers both Wi-Fi and cellular connect options.
Camera
Tie
Camera quality for both the Nexus and the iPad are fairly comparable to each other without any major differences.
Application Store
Winner – Nexus 10
This is a tough consideration, primarily because Apple does offer more applications (although Google is closing in quite quickly). But even still, Google wins this battle. With its multitude of free apps, Google Play offers more for less, and more are added every day.
Resolution
Winner – Nexus 10
This is one of Nexus 10’s knockouts. The incredibly crisp 2560×1600, 300 ppi display is definitely a “wow-factor.”
Web Browser
Winner – Tie
Another tough toss-up, the browser capabilities on both devices are unsurprisingly efficient and fluid. Chrome is fast and built for web application integration, and Safari has always been a crown jewel in the web browser pool.
Cost
Winner – Nexus 10
Coming in a cool $100 under the iPad, Nexus easily wins cost conscious buyers.
Overall Winner – Nexus 10
Overall, both tablets offer robust features and they’re no doubt both great tablets. In a side-by-side, Nexus takes the slight edge here. Not only can Apple expect major competition, but in basic tech rundowns like these, Nexus is actually leading. That said, it becomes increasingly difficult to convince loyal Apple customers that a new option might be a better one, which signals that there is always something Apple buyers can’t turn down. Even with a higher price tag, many faithful Apple buyers will remain iPad owners.
Where to Find the Nexus 10
The Nexus 10 starts at $399 retail for the 16GB model (the 32GB version starts at $499). However, there may be other options for finding the Nexus 10 for less than retail costs, namely through online shopping sites like HappyBidDay. These auction shopping networks allow users to buy bids and bid on high-demand items like the Nexus in an auction setting, often selling well below retail prices.

Nexus 10 is surely going to beat I pad. The current model of Nexus has been a super success and personally I like that device very much because it is worth the price. All the features are much improved and better than the I pad according to me. I would rather waste my money on an Apple product.

Nexus 10 maybe have great features, but the fact you can’t easily buy the Nexus 10 – either through the Google Play store or in a physical store is a HUGE FAIL.
As a result iPad wins and the Nexus is no threat at all.
