If you are thinking about taking some time out from your career, then you will want to make the most of your time off. There are many different options available across the world; it can be difficult finding the right experience for your sabbatical. Whether you are having a couple of months off, or even a full year, here are some ideas of how you can ensure your time out are worthwhile:
Travel Australia and New Zealand – If you want to go out and see as much of the world as you can over a month or longer, then the east coast of Australia and a flight over to New Zealand offers great opportunities to see and experience a wide range of places.
Starting off in Cairns, you can make your way down the coast, stopping at all of the amazing cities, towns and islands along the way. You can visit the Whitsundays, stop at Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne as well as loads of other fantastic places. The flight time from Melbourne to Auckland is under 4 hours and is worth the additional travel time to experience the amazing scenery in New Zealand.
Set up a stall at music festivals – If you love music festivals then a great way to enjoy them is to set up a service that you can provide to the festival organizers. Whether you fancy setting up a catering van or you want to help move equipment from base to base, all you need is the right license and the right kind of truck/trailer. There are loads of companies across the US that have used trailers for sale.
Teach English in another country – Fancy teaching abroad but you’re not fluent in any other languages? Don’t worry, you can still get a job teaching. Many schools across the world adopt ‘English only’ lessons, so you don’t need to be fluent in the native language. Most schools will require a certain level of teaching qualification but you can obtain this through a fairly short study course before you start your sabbatical.
Instruct watersports – If you love surfing, canoeing, white water rafting or any other kind of watersports, then what would be more fun than making a living out of it? There are thousands of tourist-filled locations across the US that are looking for people to teach watersports. You can take a short course to qualify before selecting one of the great beaches, rivers and lakes to work from.
Taking time out from your career can have great long-term benefits and will reduce the onset of career boredom. People can often get to a point in their career where they regret not doing exciting things whilst they still had the chance. If you get the opportunity to take a sabbatical then use it wisely and choose something that you love. You never know, it could open up a whole new world of opportunities for you.
