Watching videos online is an awesome experience, but the moment you step out of your Wi-Fi zone, it might become a daunting time as you either don’t have internet connectivity, or your connection is too slow to play your favorite videos online! For such times, we suggest downloading videos so that you are able to play them even when you are offline.
If you want to download a video from a video directory such as YouTube, you’d need an application to serve as a downloading platform. Real Downloader from Real Player is an easy application that can download videos from the internet and save them to your computer. You can also use its video player to watch the videos. Apart from YouTube, you can also download videos from several websites such as Atom.com, StupidVideos.com, FunnyOrDie.com, DailyMotion.com and CollegeHumor.com among many others.
Let’s get started-
Download the downloading application. You can download Real Downloader, Orbit Downloader, or Flash Video Downloader. To install the application, click on the execution file and accept the terms and conditions and get the license agreement. Check or uncheck the options for newsletter subscription, toolbar etc.
Close the web browser as and when your computer pops up a window to ask you to do so. Closing a web browser will ensure proper and quick installation of your downloader. If you do not close the browser application when needed, it might interfere with the downloading and installation process.
Once your installation is complete, re-open your web browser. Go to the desired website from where you want to download the video. Find the video of your choice.
Roll-over your mouse on the video and wait for a pop up to ask you to download the video using RealPlayer Downloader (or whatever application you have downloaded for video downloading). If a pop-up window does not appear which may happen if you have opted to block your pop ups, right-click on the video to get similar options.
Select “Download This Video” option and this will kick-start the downloading of your video in your Downloader library. Do not select ‘Cancel’ or ‘Close’ once the downloading begins. This will disrupt the process.
By default, when a video is downloaded, it is saved in the downloader library, but you can always change the location of the downloaded file. Go to the video and open the file menu. Select “Save As” option and choose the location on your computer where you want to save the video file.
When you select a downloader for your online videos, make sure that the downloader gives you an option to download and play avi, mp4 as well as wmv files. Most downloaders do not give you the option to convert the video or change its format. Make sure that you select the right downloader that gives you maximum options and flexibility with your downloaded videos.
Before you get started, it is important for you to note that most of these applications come for free and you do not need to shell out any money for the downloading application. However, if you opt to download a paid video, you might need to keep your credit card handy for that. Most videos, however, are available for free download. One website might charge you something for a video, but some other website will offer a free download for the same window. It is hence essential to research a bit before clicking the ‘Agree’ or ‘Continue’ button!
