Capturing a video footage of a minimally invasive surgical procedure like that of endoscopy can be very challenging. This is due to the fact that in a procedure called “endoscopy,” a medical instrument called endoscope is generally inserted into a patient’s body opening (e.g. mouth, nose, etc.) and penetrate inside the patient’s body to perform minor surgery. Endoscopes are equipped with a miniature camera and cutting instruments at one end that allows surgeons to see, identify, and treat a disease that is located inside a patient’s internal organ. The imagery captured by the endoscope can then be streamed or recorded for viewing by internists.

Today, viewing a surgical procedure by means of live video streaming or live surgery streaming is common in many major hospitals around the world. Not only that the surgical procedure can be viewed outside the confines of the operating room, but also it can also be broadcast via the internet. Along with the advancements in communications technology, surgeons can now consult, instruct, and advice on a surgical procedure via video conferencing during surgery. Moreover, not only those video images captured by an endoscope or other video equipment inside the operating room can be streamed; imagery from MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) equipment and surgical robots can also be recorded and streamed likewise.

The latest wireless technology that involves HD (high definition) video digital imagery provides an efficient way to transmit or stream video files using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and RF. Likewise, wireless technology allows unrestricted movement for the video camera operator. Using wireless technology, surgeons can now access information such as MRI, intra-operative, endoscopic, and other video imagery that can be vital to the surgical proceeding. Moreover, post-operative video documentations of the procedure can now be viewed or recorded for future analysis and instructional purposes.
