Facebook has said that a bug was responsible for a random posting that was purported to have come from its founder, Mark Zuckerberg. The message, which was posted to the site’s Fan page in the name of Mr Zuckerberg, called the social-networking Website to become a “social business” with investment from its users thereby raising speculations that either the site or Mr Zuckerberg’s account had been hacked. The post, which attracted about 2,000 comments before it was removed read: “Let the hacking begin: If Facebook needs money, instead of going to the banks, why doesn’t Facebook let its users invest in Facebook in a social way? Why not transform Facebook into a social business the way Nobel Prize winner Muhammad Yunus described it?…”
According to Facebook, “a bug enabled status postings by unauthorised people on a handful of pages”. However, Facebook added that the bug, which has now been fixed, only affected a handful of Facebook pages while no personal user accounts were compromised. The news coincides with the launch of new security tools aimed to provide users with better security via secured HTTPS connections.Although Facebook currently uses HTTPS whenever a user’s password is sent, it will now be expanding its usage in order to help keep user-data more secure.

I deactivated my Facebook acct because of privacy and security issues like that. I don’t want people posting non-flattering pics of me, write revealing things on my Wall, and have my employer find out everything about me.

This one is real interesting piece of news. i didnt know a simple bug shake bases of facebook so easily. With in a very short time it attracted 2000 people thats strange. I hope not see such bug issues agin on FACEBOOK, i have noticed now privacy security is now becoming weaker in Facebook.

Facebook has been having security issues like this for years now so this is nothing new. It is just a matter of time before a bug compromises personal user accounts.
I hope these new security tools Facebook is going to start implementing help prevent situations like these but I doubt it. I doubt these HTTPS connections will improve their security that much.

No wonder that is why Facebook is very serious of security issues thisdays. Facebook must address all security issue now, before the IPO, if they want people to response to the public offer very well.

There’s a saying that success attracts lots of enemies. Unfortunately, these are the kind of issues big Websites have to contend with.

When will Facebook grow up and accept responsibility for something they have messed up?

Facebook always thinks about safety of its users. But not every time it can be possible. I wasn;t much surprised by these news, but nevertheless it was interesting to read it. Especcially I like this sayiing “Let the hacking begin”))))))
