Enterprise applications for mobile, are making their presence felt in the world of business, especially because they bring to enterprises the kind of agility and flexibility that is usually seen in businesses half their size.
These applications give them the ability to adapt quickly to the changing business environment and remain competitive in spite of the rising overhead costs, that such large businesses are prone to suffering from.
While enterprise applications are known for their ability to improve business process efficiency and offer a slew of benefits to their users, what many people are unaware is that ‘research’ plays a crucial role in determining the scale, scope and functionality of enterprise applications.
Let’s take a closer look at what this research includes.
Identifying and defining the Need for an Enterprise App
Does your business really need an enterprise application? That is the question that needs to be answered first up. Just because an enterprise application is improving the fortunes of other businesses does not mean that it’s going to work wonders for your business as well.
So, you need to conduct a thorough and exhaustive research on the need for an enterprise mobile application. Will the efficiency of a certain process improve by integrating a mobile app? That is the question that needs to be answered. If the answer is yes, go for an app, if you still have a doubt, stop right there, analyze a bit more.
Decide the Platform
There are plenty of mobile platforms that you can develop a mobile app for, but which is the one that suits your needs and requirements best. Whether you think an Android OS, iOS, BlackBerry OS, or if it’s Symbian or Windows Phone 7 that you want to target. You will need to take a decision with great care, because, the app must be able to seamlessly integrate with your business’s existing IT infrastructure. If the enterprise app is going to make its way to your customers, then you must have a regard for their expectations as well. If a majority of your target audience have an android phone, it makes no sense to develop an app for the iOS.
Of course, the use of a cross platform compatible HTML 5, allows you to develop a common code for your app, allowing it to run on multiple platforms, you still must take out to do some well thought through research.
Features and Functionalities
This is the key. What are going to be the features and functionalities of your mobile app. Obviously, if you are to zero in on the kind of features and functionalities that you want your app to have, you need to freeze on the appropriate concept. What this essentially means is that you need to conceptualize an app that revolves around your needs and demands. If you need an app that improves customer engagement think accordingly, if you want to improve productivity, get your thoughts running in that direction, or if you want your app to improve or streamline enterprise resource planning, then you need to put your efforts in that direction.
In Conclusion
There are plenty of things that you need to get right with your enterprise app, but for that to happen, research is of paramount importance. This will help you create an app that is perfectly suited for the purpose you have in mind for it.
