Document Management and Workflows In SharePoint 2013

sharepoint2013

SharePoint is known as a tool for document management and improved workflow within enterprises and organizations, and the 2013 version offers many new advantages that users are raving about. Indeed, ‘SharePoint 2013′ has advanced and updated enterprise workflows with new server features, including elastic scalability, fully declarative authoring, managed service reliability, REST messaging, Service Bus messaging and more. These new and improved enterprise content management solutions are designed to assist with tasks and goals at all levels of the enterprise, so all processes are managed from one centralized system of orchestration. This Microsoft web application platform offers many advantages that enterprises should be aware of.

Advantages of SharePoint’s Two-Tiered Platform System

There are really two enterprise content management systems at work in the latest version of SharePoint’s powerful web application platform. The workflow platform from 2010 will carry on with the new version, so users can still access all the data they were working with from the previous version. The enterprise content management (ECM) system will still automatically install the same workflow engine, although there are many options to configure a separately installed workflow manager to take advantage of all the new features. Once this new workflow manager service is downloaded and installed, then it is possible for all your tools to communicate with the 2013 platform and use all the new processes that are available. This allows users of the 2010 platform to integrate their old enterprise content management system with the new one without losing any data.

New Designs and Functions Galore

Another advantage of SharePoint 2013 is the new design enhancements that increase the functionality and appearance of the workflow manager and other tools. The workflow manager now includes a visual experience with a Visio add-on, new possibilities for creating tasks and starting processes and innovative building blocks such as App Step, Loop and Stage. There is also a brand new dictionary type with enhanced features, and an action that makes it possible to make web service calls from within a workflow without a code. That’s not all, either. With the choice of creating workflows in either the 2010 or 2013 platform, users have the flexibility to choose the processes that work best for them and the tasks at hand.

The Power to do More with Your Workflow

There are many more enterprise content management solutions that were developed specifically for the new version of this platform. The workflow manager is stronger and more powerful than ever before, with enhanced functions including activity artifact management, fully declarative authoring, high density, instance management, elastic scale, managed service reliability, monitoring, multi-tenancy, REST messaging, Service Bus messaging and tracking. There are also new features in PowerShell, which must be configured to communicate with the server cluster after downloading the workflow manager. This is how you will manage the workflow manager and monitor the progress of all your tasks and workflows.

The Bottom Line for Businesses

There are many reasons to consider investing in the latest version of SharePoint – that is the bottom line for large businesses and corporations, as well as a growing number of small to medium-sized businesses. For any business with a large amount of data, resources, tasks, processes and/or people, this type of ECM can ensure that workflow is efficient, effective, successful, timely and high in quality. Businesses without enterprise content management systems, on the other hand, are left on their own to attempt managing tasks, processes, people, deadlines and quality control with a wing and a prayer. Luckily, there are better ways for enterprises of all shapes and sizes to manage their workflows in 2013, and well into the future.
