Benefits of Sending Your Child to a Boarding School in the UK  

Boarding schools are an age-old institution that still dominates the private school sector in the United Kingdom. There are approximately 500 boarding schools in the UK today, each offering a superior education setting children upon the path to success. With prices around £28,000 –  £50,000 a year, it is important to know what are the benefits of a UK boarding school.

Why are boarding schools so popular in the UK?

Sending a child to an International Boarding School within the UK is a popular choice not just for international students, but also for national students. With the first boarding school, King’s School in Canterbury established in 597 AD, there has been a desire for parents to send and board their children at a boarding school.

With popularity rising from schools like Eton, UK boarding schools have gone from strength to strength. As stated there are now over 500 schools across the British Isles.

The disadvantages come with the lack of interaction between yourself and your child. It might be a necessary move that you have to make by sending your child to boarding school but it can also be difficult seeing your child either on the occasional weekend, over a video call or just in the holidays. In no way does this harm a child’s development but it can be a difficult time for both parent and child.

Also, you have to think of the financial burden of sending your child to a boarding school. It can be incredibly expensive for your child to experience the benefits of a UK boarding school. However, there are financial options available and private education scholarships available that could give your child a chance at high-class education. 

Does boarding school harm the welfare of your child?

A common misconception is that boarding schools can scar your child and a place where children suffer and look back on with negative emotions. However, this could not be further from the truth because it is actually a place for children to grow and prosper into young adults. When children attend a boarding school there are nurtured, cared for and given a well-rounded experience of academic and social life.

If you are considering sending your child to boarding school then it is important to do your research about the school and find out if it is the best experience for your child. An important thing to consider is what age to send your child to boarding school and understand if it is the right time for them to go into such a different world, that they might not be used to.

That being said, you will find that boarding schools have plenty of support available for your child and will make things as easy as they can for you and your family. Although a difficult decision, after completing the necessary research and finding the boarding school that is best suited for your child, you will find sending your child to a boarding school to be the best choice for their education.
