Google Testing New User Interface

google-voice-mobileGoogle has been reported to be testing out a new user interface design in Finland. Whilst the new design does not appear to be very different from the current interface, at the moment, its trademark I’m Feeling Lucky button is conspicuously absent.

The I’m Feeling Lucky button has been a major part of Google’s search engine for over ten years and was designed to take users directly to the first search result, thereby bypassing the search engine result pages (SERPs).

According to analysts, if Google finally decides to remove the I’m Feeling Lucky button, it might be as a result of the effectiveness and relative success of the it’s new Instant search technology. Since the launch of Google Instant search last year, the button has only been functional if Instant search is disabled by the user.

It is a well known fact that Google has refused to rest on its laurels when it comes to search engine technology. More recently, the world’s most popular search Website made Google voice search available to desktop users. The feature which enables users to conduct Web searches via voice command has already been available to mobile device users for some time.

Talking Point

Will you miss the I’m Feeling Lucky button if ditched by Google?

  1. Google knows what they are doing, I have never considered using the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button because most of the time I just waste my time. Google Instant is the modern search engine and it looks like it’s not going away.

    1. This is very interesting. I have been wondering about the inclusion of the “I’m feeling lucky” button for a while now. Seemed redundant. Now, I guess it is. The voice search for desktops is a bonus, but if I have a full keyboard I can type faster than I can talk…

  2. Google has always been helpful to people and that was their key to being popular.. doing changes like this could mean more help that they can give us.. a little excited.. 😀

  3. The one is not quite different from the current user interface of Google. Any way Goolge has always been useful in making things easy for users.

  4. As far as my experience with the I am feeling lucky button on google search page is considered I’ve never used it in my whole life:)
I feel that it is taking up a important space which could be used for something more useful.

  5. I have never used this button so i wont miss it 🙂 Further more i’m sure Google knows what is doing so we should only wait for new changes ;]

  6. Yes, the fronted design of the layout has been changed and rest more or less looks similar, functionality is still that same. I have been trying to search the ‘I’m Feeling Lucky’ button and you are correct, couldn’t locate it anywhere!

  7. I Google for almost every information I need to know but I didn’t notice that the lucky button is missing. I need to check on this and try to be a more keen observer. I’m sure Google will come back with an even more interesting button.

  8. Wow, sometimes just wondering why when it comes to internet world, the very first thing comes in mind is all about Google. seems it is offering quite much tools and facilities.though using yahoo most of the times, just because of its friendly and colorful look. However, need to get friendship with google as well. seems so.

  9. I don’t remember when the lucky button went missing but I’ve noticed that from before because it used to flash like a distraction. If Google pulled it down there must have been a reason, maybe users stopped clicking it. Google has also started introducing new updates and it looks like instead of this button something interesting is on the way.

  10. Google is already a legend when it comes to web browsers and search engines. Google makes the internet experience much better for people. What they are currently developing right now must be to provide greater services that even before. It can be worth the try when it comes.

  11. Google has started a revolution in the cyber space. They have taken action to become the leader in each and every area in the internet. This might be good but it will have some adverse effects as well. So lets see what is going to happen

  12. I barely ever used the “I’m feeling lucky” button, and I wont miss it.
Google instant is the way to go. But I don’t like it SEO-wize because this will change what people will search for. Longer tail keywords will become even weaker because people might find what they are looking for even before they typed the long tail keyword.
