10 Ways To Attract Fans To Your Facebook Page

facebook likeThe importance of social media on the Internet cannot be over emphasised. Top of the list for most Internet users today, is Facebook, with over 500 million registered users. To this end, it is no longer a surprise that many businesses, politicians, Webmasters, bloggers, and individuals are using Facebook to establish an online presence and stay in touch with most of their fans. Apart from maintaining contact, many go one step further by using social networks to actually enhance their reputation and gain more followers. However, due to the amount of competition out there, it is very important to know that it isn’t enough to just create a Facebook fan page but also attract users and fans to your Facebook page. The following are therefore 10 examples of how you can make people “like” your fan page and maintain regular contact with your followers.

1. Avoid Empty Pages

A Facebook fan page should have some content. It is amazing the amount of fan pages out there without any sort of content whatsoever. In such cases, one cannot help but feel that those pages are created just for the sake of it.  You can even take advantage of the many apps on Facebook to automatically import games, your rss feed, etc.

2. Link To Your Website

Make your regular readers or Web visitors aware that you now have a Facebook fan page. Don’t just buy a domain name, create a redirect url that will link directly to your Facebook page or better still use the Facebook social plugin to display the number of fans you have and encourage others to like your page as well.

3. Use Twitter

You can also use Twitter to boost visits to get more fans for your Facebook page. This is particularly useful if you already have a Twitter account and could be likened to “killing two birds with one stone”.

4. Embed Multimedia Content

Insert multimedia images, videos and so on on your page. Apart from having the usual, simple text content, many people find multimedia content quite appealing, unique & attractive and tend to visit or “like” them more often.

5. Organise Contests

Perhaps, not the cheapest option but organising contests and giving away prizes etc. tend to attract fans to Facebook pages. This can be done for example, by doing a prize draw or puzzles to reward some of your newest fans on a weekly basis.

6. Encourage User Participation

Facebook pages come with a built-in discussion board to encourage fan participation and communication between users. You can use this feature to create an area for discussion threads on topics which your users might find useful. Furthermore, you can encourage fans to engage in activities such as uploading their favourite videos, links or photos.

7. Acknowledge New Fans

You can take a look at this NetworkedBlogs article/example to find out how to acknowledge new fans when they join your fan page.

8. Create A Welcome Page

There are many apps that can be used to create a welcome page for your Facebook fan page. For example, FBML and Static HTML: iframe tabs. There provide an avenue to create a custom welcome page with standard html tags to those who visit your fan page for the very first time.

9. Word Of Mouth

Usually, the first thing I do after creating a Facebook fan page is to invite all my friends. This can be done by using the suggest to friends link. See this post on using Facebook’s auto-select hack.

10. The Advertising Option

Last but not least is advertising. This option obviously involves spending money to get fans. I’m not too sure about how the justifications for paying for or buying fans either directly or indirectly but then if you do have the money and are willing to advertise for Facebook fans, then why not?

If you don’t know what a good fan page should look like, here is an example of a top Facebook technology fan page.

The Twitter point is a really good one. I’ve recently started one for business purposes and have already gotten a good number of followers, but I haven’t been able to bring up our Facebook numbers. I think linking the two will definitely be beneficial, so thanks!

Great points. I find having a contest can definitely boost the number of fans.. just make sure the contest rewards more points or chances to those who become a Facebook fan.

These are all valid points in getting likes. The best things that work for me are Twiends, (you can google that) and running some sort of incentive that forces somebody to “like” your page before they can view whatever it is your offering.

Yep, contests are a sure fire way to gain fans on Facebook.

I’ve also found that liking Facebook pages that are similar to yours is a good starting point in gathering fans.Once you become a fan of these pages, go ahead and participate in conversations, like posts of other people, and write genuine and meaningful wall posts. If all these are done in concurrence with you posting great content on YOUR page, then the fans will come. 🙂

Yeah!!! All these points will surely affect and attracts our fans to our Facebook pages. The most interesting point was of advertisement and creating a welcome page because for me the fans should get the advertisement by us and once entered it they would be unable to go elsewhere after seeing our welcome page… I have started trying this technique..

All of those points are great ideas and worth to try but they need time, time and ..time 🙂 To find many fans your facebook website must be vital, interesting, innovative, unique and it has to be moderated everyday. The best solution is to have special worker only for your facebook account but not every company can afford that.

I am a big fan of Twiends for getting fans on my sites. Sometimes they drop you or they don’t interact too much but the numbers are impressive.

Because you need to think more on how are you going to attract your fan in facebook page by using an interesting and unique design.
