What to Look for in Medical Staffing Software Reviews

When it comes to shopping for medical staffing software, you want to ensure that you are choosing one that best meets your needs. Reading about each program on its respective website certainly, helps, but what if you want information beyond that? What if you want to know what others are saying about any given program? That is where medical staffing software reviews come into play.

You can read these reviews thoroughly to gauge general user experience and software value. Just remember that all those software reviews are written by humans, and you are a human resources expert.   Use your professional awareness and instincts to guide you through these reviewing resources. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you do:

 Assessing User Reviews

Reviews from people just like you can be extremely helpful. After all, don’t you want to know how medical facilities like your own are managing staffing and what you can do to make the process more efficient for yourself?

With that in mind, you should not take every review at face value. Here there are several reviewing structures of which you will want to be wary:

  • A small number of reviews that could have easily been placed by a company
  • A concentration of older reviews may mean a program is out of date
  • Claims that software can handle every single staffing problem ever without any tangible proof

More reliable reviewers will not say everything is perfect. When they do offer praise, it will be specific. If you find several specific perks across many different reviews, you can likely reasonably conclude that that perk is of significant value. Look for a positive consensus from a large number of users: “Great interface for recruiting,” “Intuitive payroll application,” and so on.

IfF a thoughtful reviewer leaves his or her name —– for example, “Bill Smith – Director of HR at the Cleveland Clinic” —– email them. Thank them for their thorough review and ask any further questions you may have about the software or staffing management in general. While there is no guarantee that the person will be able to respond, most people are more than happy to help.

Assessing Professional Self-Reviews

Many companies create their own reviewing source. While they are not lying, some are counting on an objective Consumer Reports appearance to catch you off guard. While these sources can tell you a great deal about a legitimate product, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

Many features, such as onboarding or “a flexible staff scheduling suited for the medical profession,” are going to be written as if they are exclusive to their products.   They really aren’t.

Also, self-reviewers pick inferior products for comparison. For example, if a company’s software can easily access international medical schools, they will compare it to one that can’t. That is not exactly a fair comparison if the focus of the review is simply a general overview of programs.

Assessing Professional Third-Party Reviews

Before you read a Consumer Reports type of site, go to the bottom and click “About Us.”   This will let you know who is behind the information. If the company produces the software in question, then you will want to take that into account when considering the information in the review.

Sites that belong to professional third-party reviewers should also explain their motivation.   For example, ItQlick is a software reviewer that represents all brands of software. They are paid by whichever brand you happen to choose. That is their motivation.

Bottom Line: Reviews Are Valuable Tools, But View Them Critically

Reviews can give you information that you might not find on a software developer’s website. That’s because reviews tend to come from people on the user end of the software. That said, do read every review critically. Understand who is behind the review and what they might have gained from leaving it. That way, you can be sure that you are making a decision that improves your medical staffing process rather than stalls it.
