Top 10 Ways to Waste Time Online

If nothing else, the internet is a great way to waste time. Sure, you can learn stuff, talk to people from all around the world, and buy anything you want from anywhere you want. But most of us use it for wasting time, most of all. After awhile of using the internet this way, you start to want to improve your methods, to become better at wasting time. Well brave internet user, we’re here for you.

  • Reddit. While it may seem obvious to some, many people still haven’t used Reddit. One of the most popular websites in the world, Reddit allows real users to submit content that they like, to be voted on by all online members. Highly voted content is at the top of the page, while the bad stuff sinks into oblivion. At any given time, Reddit will feature the most exciting, interesting, stupid, or controversial content on the whole internet. It also has lots of different “sub-reddits” based around specific topics, about anything you can imagine.
  • Multiplayer Browser Games. It used to be that you had to buy games like this from the store, but today you can get them directly through Facebook and other sources. Whether you like strategy games, MMOs, or any other game you can play with your friends online, this website is a good place to start.
  • Steam. Another great way to find games like those mentioned above is Steam. Steam is made for the casual to serious gamer. You can buy and load games straight to your PC, and play them to your heart’s content, without taking up so much space on your own computer.
  • Consuming. If you love shopping in the real world, you’ll love shopping online. Just pick something you want and look for it until you’ve found five other things you want more!
  • Finding Old Friends. As in the early days of Facebook, it’s always possible to find people from earlier in life. Google peoples’ names and find that girl you had a crush on in 3rd grade, or that bully from your neighborhood who now owns a Chic-fil-a franchise.
  • Find Dead Relatives. Research your ancestry with a variety of tools now available to anyone with an internet connection.
  • Sell Your Belongings. Need some extra cash? Throw that stuff up on Ebay. Or Amazon. Or Etsy. Or Craigslist.
  • Go GeoCaching. If you want to combine the majesty of the internet with the tactile sensations of the physical world, go geocaching. Using geographic coordinates, you can find hidden treasures left in specific spots by other users. What will the previous treasure hunter have left you? Only you can find out.
  • Read the Collected Works of Voltaire. They’re all available for free online. After you’re done with voltaire, check out some of the other amazing works that are in the public record. This could keep you busy for awhile.
