PowWeb Review

PowWeb is one of the oldest and most popular Web-hosting service providers out there. Established in 1999, PowWeb has almost ten years experience in this area providing hosting services at cheap and affordable prices. Some of the services advertised on its homepage, for only $3.38/month, are presented below.

  • Unlimited Disk Space
  • Unlimited Data Transfer
  • Free Domain
  • Host Unlimited Domains
  • MySQL, >PHP, CGI
  • SSL, FTP, Stats
  • Point & Click Site Builder
  • $75 in Yahoo & Google Ads Credits
  • E-Commerce Included
  • FrontPage/Dreamweaver ready
  • 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee

Other services include the Control panel, Webmail access (secure login), spam filters, and free applications such as Webalizer, AWStats, WordPress, phpBB, Joomla and Coppermine Gallery. In addition, the company develops its own custom Web hosting infrastructure and software internally to cater for their customers and provide 24/7 phone and chat support.

However, this review will be made from my own personal experience. While I have only been with PowWeb for about 6 months, I am yet to experience any major issues apart from a couple of downtimes and AWStats malfunction. The support and customer service has been quite consistent every time I contact them about these issues and tickets have been resolved within a short space of time.

The company offers a single hosting plan called, “One Plan, One Price” that consists of “a complete All-in-One hosting solution with plenty of disk space, bandwidth and additional features”. It uses a Debian platform and SQL, Perl and PHP Versions, 5.0.45, 5.8.8 and 4.4.8 respectively.

Summary

If what you are searching for is a very good low-cost Web hosting provider, to host a simple, personal or small business Website, then I would recommend giving PowWeb a consideration.

I have used PowWeb for a number of years now and I have to add my two cents.

In the early days, the service was great, I had significant uptime on my sites and reaching out to customer service was a snap.

Flash forward a couple of years and their service has really degraded. They have had to fight off a number of DDOS attacks and ever since then they have not recovered.

Pages load slower than normal, webmail crawls and overall it is just not the same.

now when it comes to the price, it is definitely and affordable service so if that is a major concern for you then by all means sign up with them.

My advice is to try it for a year and make sure you can tolerate some of the things that are turning me off of them recently.

I recommend PowWeb. I know a few of my friends are using it for various things and have no issues with using it. They really like the one-click install features for things like WordPress.

I have a discount available on my site for powweb too, which works out to be approx. $2.75/mo after the rebate.

I’m glad other people seem to think they are pretty good.

    Cheers,
    Eric

This looks great but the review above me worries me slightly.

You would expect a web-hosting company like PowWeb to be able to deal with DDOS attacks in this day and age, considering that they happen a lot. It worries me that there may be downtime on my website and that it would be slow to load a page.

Thank you for your review on it, I’ll be doing more research.
