Essential Security Steps for iPhone Fanatics

Those of us who own iPhones have all the reasons to be obsessed with the smartphone device. The reason for this obsession is quite obvious as iPhones are excellent devices with a range of cool applications coupled with a nice interface. However, with only few security measures in the offering, the device is always at risk of being stolen or lost.

Below are some essential security steps for iPhone users. Check them out and see how they might benefit you.

1.) Pass code and auto lock

This is one of the basic preventive measures that an iPhone user should use to secure their device. You will prevent yourself from becoming a victim of opportunism if you follow this advise. If you enable the auto lock feature of your iPhone and set a complex password, other people will not be able to use the iPhone without your knowledge. This feature is particularly of great use for example, if you forget your iPhone at home, you can retrieve it without worrying about potential damage or data loss.

2.) Wi-Fi safety measures

Wi–Fi is another innovative feature on your iPhone that you use to connect to the Internet although it can be of great security importance at the same time. You will need to prevent others from using your device without your knowledge by not using the iPhone in a non-encrypted network which bears several security risks. You will also have to enable the “ask to join network” option on your iPhone. Enabling this feature will help you keep away from connecting with other unsecured networks. If you do not enable this option, your phone will be connected to other random networks and this can create problems for you.

3.) Activate data-wipe option

A unique feature in the form of the data-wipe option is available in iPhones. This comes to your rescue in situations when other people try to hack your iPhone by entering wrong pass code in the phone. In fact this can be categorized as a robust security layer that one will be pleased to use. However, you too need to take care as the data-wipe feature can also be activated at home if your kids try to enter wrong pass code a number of times. A little note of warning though. Repeated entry of the wrong pass code can set the iPhone back to its factory settings mode thereby wiping off all the essential data such as pictures, contacts and emails that you might have saved in the draft option. Although this feature has been designed to prevent data loss in case the iPhone falls in wrong hands, one needs to be cautious and should not leave the iPhone unattended particularly at home.

4.) Good iPhone insurance

One of the biggest security threat that your iPhone faces is theft. Undoubtedly the data stored in the iPhone is vital and can cause unnecessary trouble for you if it lands in wrong hands. Similarly, the physical loss of the device is also a cause of concern as the iPhone is a costly device and you cannot afford to loose it. Thankfully, a range of insurance options are available for iPhone users. This covers loss from theft, burning and other potential situations. A range of companies offer distinct insurance packages depending on the model and price of your iPhone. Act with vision and choose an appropriate iPhone insurance cover that fulfills your imminent requirements. Having an insurance cover will ensure that you will get the actual cost of your iPhone, even if your device is stolen.

Follow the above listed steps today and ensure safety of your iPhone.

    Hi Alyssa,

Most of the tips above are also applicable to Android devices. The data wipe in iPhone looks scary and we are forced to keep our iPhone out of reach of children 😀

I agree with Naser, the above mentioned tips are also good things to consider on Android phones and devices. Thanks for sharing, Alyssa!
