This year, Britain witnessed a number of changes in its telecommunications landscape, with arguably the most notable being the introduction of 4G services. With this, came a slew of handsets like the iPhone 5 and Samsung SIII, but these also sat alongside models like the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE.
So who is the company behind this smartphone? Has it got the credentials to compete in this highly competitive market? And how will the Ascend P1 compete with its rivals as part of the launch of 4G in the UK?

Based in China, Huawei has been around for a few years now and has been growing pretty fast more recently. The telecommunications giant is actually one of the biggest gadget makers in the world and specializes in making many unbranded products for service providers such as modems and set-top boxes, as well as basic handsets.
A Bit About the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE
If you have a smartphone that is going up against devices like the iPhone 5, Samsung SIII or even the new Nokia Lumia 920, it had better be good – or at least have a unique selling point. What the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE has going for it is its price point, as well as some impressive features for a phone that falls into that category. This includes a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED capacitive Gorilla Glass touch screen, as well as full HD video and an 8-megapixel camera.
What the Critics Say
The Huawei Ascend P1 LTE has won a few fans online and has received some positive reviews. According to Gary Cutlack of TechRadar, it is “a seriously enjoyable and powerful phone” and over at Wired, Dave Oliver said that for its price it “offers a solid range of features and impressively long battery life too”. All in all, the message seems to be that if you’re in the market for a budget, 4G-enabled smartphone, the P1 could be a decent option.
Huawei also has handsets like the G 300 available and is the brand of choice for EE’s mobile broadband offering with the Huawei E589 Mobile Wi-Fi dongle. It may not topple the likes of Apple and Samsung any time soon, but it seems the group is already making a mark on the UK’s new 4G landscape.
It’s even unexpected for me to find out that this phone has positive reviews from critics, because the competition on the market is very high and I guess that it should be of high quality if it gets such reviews
