With well over seven-hundred million members worldwide, there’s not much debating the fact that Facebook is one of the most well-known and utilized websites in the world. That’s a whole lot of potential customers for any business to tap into. Thanks to the technology behind Facebook’s new Timeline interface, businesses can advertise themselves in new and innovative ways never before possible.
A More Personalized Approach
The new Timeline layout allows the user to add a more professional touch to their Facebook page by personalizing the new 851×315 pixel cover photo, which is the first thing visitors will notice. This is where businesses can choose to either incorporate a design that consistently reflects the overall market strategy of the product or service or use a photo that contains vital information. Customization is as simple as hovering the mouse pointer over the cover photo and selecting the “Change Cover” menu. A business that’s creative enough can showcase their product, service or team by creating composite images that combine profile photos with the logo of their company on the cover.
Additional Page Organization Options
Users didn’t have very many options to arrange their page in the old format because everything pretty much stayed the same. With the new Timeline interface users have more options. For example, in the “Views” section you can update or change certain features such as friends list, photos, likes and apps, and many other features to make it look more professional or corporate. Businesses also have the options to arrange or display various photos on their timeline display section to tell a story or relate a message to their clients. The Timeline also allows the user to feature specific stories by resting the mouse pointer in the Timeline story columns and clicking the “star” icon located in the upper right corner. Featuring a particular story allows it to span across all columns, which draws attention to the page’s visitors. Since there are less restrictions than the cover photo, businesses can have more solicitous content and calls to action. The user can also pin stories by clicking the “pencil” image to the right, which keeps it above the Timeline for up to a week.
Your Company’s Mission Values
The new Facebook format has an About section that has a different layout than the previous one and provides more options. Businesses not only can post their company’s URL along with their contact information, but can describe in detail their company’s goals, overall mission values and what they offer.
Enhanced Page Admin Tools
Of course, the user has to activate the new Timeline interface in order to use it. If you’re still using the old format, you should be prompted with a “Welcome to Your Page Preview” message. From there, click the “Start Tour,” which will take you through a step-by-step learning process of how the new Timeline format works. The system allows the user to design their page before publishing it the public until the “Publish Now” option is selected. Clicking the Timeline will display the Admin Panel as a drop-down menu. From there, the user can manage their layout. The “Build Audience” menu offers various options, such “Share Page,” “Invite Friends” and “Create and Ad.” The “Page Insights” option allows a business to analyze who visits their page and what content is most popular with their visitors.
Conclusion
Though the new layout may require some getting used to in order to tweak it the way that’s most desirable, the time to learn how to use it is worthwhile. As more and more customers utilize social networks for company recommendations of products and services, Facebook marketing is not just becoming a lucrative business tool but a business necessity. Facebook is all about telling your story via composite visual graphics on a social platform that is taking the world by storm. The new Timeline feature provides businesses the opportunity to tell their story in a personal way that builds trust and relationships across the globe.
