Communication over phones made our lives quite easy, but it also made us dependent on technology. A lot of advancements have been made since the advent, and a lot of dependencies comes due to data sharing. From essential and sensitive data to neighborhood gossip, almost everything is being shared over the internet. In many cases, this information needs to be saved or recorded so that it can be preserved for later. Now, traditional telephones usually didn’t allow for any such sort of recording and needed separate devices attached to them. Still, since we have moved so far and ahead from the traditional, we don’t need separate devices, your smartphones are enough.
In this article, I am going to share with you simple and easy to follow steps on how to record phone calls using Google Voice. Have a look.
Record Phone Calls Using Google Voice
1. Get the Application
If you don’t already have the Google Voice app installed on your smartphone, then do it. It is a great way to record phone calls without any cost. Many applications in the market would do the same job but are not reliable enough or charge a lot. You can get the application on Play Store if you are using an Android Smartphone or on the App Store if you are using iPhone.

With that being said, this easy to use application also comes with its drawbacks, such as only recording the incoming calls and alerting the person on the other end that you are recording their call. So if you don’t mind these two factors, then the rest should be smooth.
2. Create an Account
Before you can start recording, you will have to make an account with Google, if you don’t already have it. After the app is installed, launch it and click on “Get Started”. If you have an account already, you will be asked to choose which account you want to login from, or you will be taken for creating a new Google account. Follow the steps, provide and verify information, and you are done. After that you will be directed to their terms and conditions, do read them carefully and if you agree with them then click on Proceed.
3. Getting a Google Voice Number

Okay, for you to receive the calls, Google will assign you a phone number. You will be taken to Choose a Google Voice Number page. Click on Search > Select your City > You will be directed to a page that will show you a list of numbers available, choose the one you want > Confirm the Number > Click on Next, and you have a new Google Voice number.
4. Set up According to your Preferences
Now that you have the application and your new contact number, it would be better if you set up the application settings according to your preferences. You will see a hamburger icon on the top left corner of your screen, click on it and then select Settings. You will be taken to the settings page where you will see a different set of options, find the one that says, “Incoming Call Option” and toggle it on to enable call recording.

To record the call, you simply need to click on the “Keypad” icon while you are on the call, this will reveal the keypad to you. Now tap on number 4 and your recording will start which will also verbally notify the person on the other side of the call that you are recording it. To stop the recording, you simply need to press number 4 again, which will stop it. The recording will also stop once you hang up the call.
6. Where can you find your recordings?
Getting a hold of the recordings is quite simple when you are using Google voice. On the Voicemail page of the app, you will find all the calls in the list that you have made till now. Simply click on any one of them and it will show you the recording. Just click on the play button and there you have it.
Quite easy, right? So these were all the steps to record a phone call with the Google Voice app that I wanted to share with you. I hope it helped you.
