Adding YouTube to Joomla

Adding YouTube to Joomla

Nowadays, audiovisual content is considered to be one of the most important materials while showcasing or promoting a business product. A lot of website owners intelligently use video content to reach out to large numbers of visitors and to communicate with them in a medium that is interesting and has recall value. Indeed, if you have a Joomla website, it is very likely that there will be situations where you would like to add video content to your website. When it comes to hosting video content, the most popular service is YouTube. YouTube makes it really easy to upload your own video content and makes it available worldwide for viewers to see and give their opinions.

Adding or embedding YouTube videos in a Joomla website is relatively a simple procedure and can be achieved in a wide variety of ways. This eliminates the hassle of having to host the videos yourself, in your own hosting space, thereby saving a lot of bandwidth and freeing up extra space for you to use otherwise.

Let us take a look at a few ways to embed YouTube videos in Joomla.

  1. The first and simplest way to integrate YouTube videos in Joomla is by using the embed code provided by YouTube and inserting it into a Joomla article as a new module. To achieve this:

    1. The first step is to navigate to the video that you want to embed on YouTube and to grab the embed code which YouTube supplies you with.

    2. Once you have selected and copied this code to your clipboard, go back to Joomla and create a new article. This is where your video is going to be embedded.

    3. Go to the extensions manager and click on the new module icon, then select “custom HTML” to take you to the editor interface. Remember, here that this does not work if you have the TinyMCE editor, in which case you have to disable the editor from your global preferences.

    4. Paste your embed code in the editor, taking care to select the “source code” option if you’re using the JCE editor. Note that you need to allow your editor to display iFrames for this technique to work.

    5. Once you’re done with this procedure, you will be able to insert the module into any article of choice and the YouTube video will be embedded in straightaway.

  1. Another similar way to embed YouTube videos in Joomla is to simply create a new article and select the “Edit HTML Source” button. Once you have done this, you will be able to view the native HTML code of the article that you have just created. Note that you need to have basic knowledge of HTML to browse through the code and locate the ideal place in which to insert the embed code. Once you are done locating the right region of HTML code, simply paste the YouTube embed code, save the HTML and return to the conventional view of the page. You will now be able to see your YouTube video embedded in your Joomla article.

  1. If you do not want to change the inherent code of Joomla pages, or are looking for another solution which is easy and takes less time, you can use one of the many Joomla YouTube video plugins that are available from the Joomla extensions directory. You can then install the plug-in of your choice into Joomla and follow instructions to quickly embed YouTube videos into your Joomla website.
