How Outdoor Activity Can Boost Your Blogging Productivity

Accountability is the very first step to success. To be accountable, means you are willing to take responsibility and mould your actions accordingly. In personal life, this has a major effect on our self-discipline and improvement.

Blogging remains, unequivocally, a personal experience first. You have to allow your mindset to adjust to the unconventional working style, the consistent need for creativity, and the optimum amount of productivity. No wonder, bloggers experience a high level of creativity slump at one or the other time during their careers.

Yet, it is very easy to drive your creativity and productivity with simple changes to your life. Research has shown a considerable effect of outdoor activities on blogging/writing productivity increase. Here are a few options for you to choose from.

Hiking

Divided attention and constant fatigue is a very common outcome of constant blogging. Your mind requires rest and your body needs to be reminded that it was not made for just sitting. However, it is not advisable to start with highly strenuous outdoor activities if you are not quite used to it.

Green exercises such as hiking can be your favored option. If you live along the countryside or the hills, there must be innumerable amount of trails to choose from around your area.

City slickers can try to contact some of the clubs or hiking associations (or just talk to your dedicated hiker friends) to locate some beginners’ trails around your area. Enjoy the fresh air, the mild to heavy exercise and work your attention fatigue issues.

Skiing/Snow Boarding

Variety is the spice of life and with so many various seasons, you do not have a dearth of outdoor activity choices. The winter ski season is just up ahead and it provides a wonderful opportunity for you to look through the option of skiing/snowboarding.

The activity is amazingly fun and refreshing. It has the potential to reinvent and refresh even the most cynical of blogger minds. Just remember to train with a proper trainer before hitting the more difficult trails.

Kayaking

Not a fan of the snowy mountains or arduous hiking trails? Try the very favored option of kayaking for a change. A kayak allows you to explore a creek, estuary, or a river and you can do it quite peacefully. These boats are not made for open water bodies with excess wind or water currents.

However, they do give you a healthy amount of exercise and the added benefit of experiencing some peace and quiet to map your mind for your next creative ideas. You can also add kayak fishing as a more vigorous alternative to your normal fishing plans (from a dock or a boat).

Rock/Ice Climbing

For seasoned outdoor activity enthusiasts, nothing but the best would do. Take your activity regimen to the next level with rock/ice climbing.

These power endurance sessions have been known to increase the amount of oxygen pumping to your brain, which is a surefire way to increase the productivity potential and fire the creativity juices. You can also search online to find a local climbing partner to create a buddy system for your activity.

Mountain Biking

Team building sports has always been the favored choice for big corporate brands to increase sales productivity and employee socialization. The direct reason being, when they learn to support each other and themselves through a strenuous challenge, they are more inclined to be able to lead and be a part of a constructive team.

Bring this high power corporate mindset to your personal blogging arena with mountain biking as your choice of outdoor activity. If you are a part of a small team of creative co-bloggers, organize a mountain trail biking sessions for all of you. Choose an intermediary level trail to adjust for all participants and power your way through all creativity slumps, productivity issues and attention deficit during projects.

These are just some of the choices available for your outdoor activity agenda. There is a world of other options available but it will depend a lot on your capability and dexterity to adapt to the chosen activity.

Also, you need to find out options that will be realistically possible for you to take up within your locality (brings down the expenses related to the sports and increases chances of a regular repeat). Do not forget to get the okay from your physician, especially if you have a history of heart disease, diabetes, or high blood pressure problems.

Hi Matthew , I am a neuroscientist with many years of research into brain health and productivity. All activity stimulates the brain but outdoor activity increases oxygen flow which improves serotonin production which in turn improves moods and increases levels of function.Be free ! Work outside for a better brain
