Apple has announced on its Website that its popular app store has reached the 10 billionth downloads mark. The result has been mostly attributed to the success of the iPhone smart-phone device which was launched in 2007. More recently, the App Store has been boosted by iPad users and boasts of over 350,000 different programs for the iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone.
According to Apple, the 10 billionth user to download an app, Gail Davis of Orpington, Kent, in the United Kingdom, who downloaded a free game app called Paper Glider, would be presented with a $10,000 gift card to the iTunes store (which now offers TV shows and movies, in addition to digital music files). The Apple app store is widely seen as one of the major reasons why Apple has a major edge against its competitors in the tablet and smart-phone market due to the wide availability of programs and applications.

Wow, I wish I was the 10 billionth user to download an app because I would have loved to have a $10,000 gift card to the iTunes store. I agree, the Apple app store is definitely the biggest reason Apple has a huge edge over it’s competitors.
It’s just almost unbelievable because 10 million equals a lot downloads. That is real great for Apple.

Apple’s App Store has set the gold standard for application stores. Application stores have become a highly visible and potentially lucrative part of the smartphone ecosystem, largely due to Apple’s App Store.

Downloading a free App and getting a 10 thousand dollar gift car in return? That’s not exactly a bad deal. It’s smart of Apple to engage in something like that, considering how much it continues to dominate the technology market. With the advancements in the iPhone and latest iPad ready to release, do you think they’ll see an even high increase of application downloads?

Whoever that person to be the 10th billionth user to download an app is very, very lucky!! The prize money is a great help to buy a new gadget online. Anyways, apple is making it big since its first launching of gadgets. I salute apple company for making this far!!
