6 Things to Know About a Dab Rig Before Buying One

Dabbing with a dab rig is the healthier way to consume cannabis. You can produce oil or wax for consumption in different forms, from a flower-like joint or by inhaling vapors through a vape device.

These methods are proven healthier than smoking just flowers because there is little to no combustion. A dab rig can be merely a piece of glass with an adjustable nail for heating and inhaling the vapors, up to pretty elaborate setups that require more space, attention to detail, and maintenance. Consider the following points when checking out a dab rig for sale.

Understand the Difference Between a Dab Rig and an Oil Rig

A dab rig is different from an oil rig because of its focus on vaporizing wax or hash oil instead of just flower or tobacco products.

A standard nail for a dab rig is generally titanium, quartz, glass, ceramic, or a combination of these materials. A dab rig is smaller and usually has a single nail, whereas an oil rig holds up to four.

Know Your Dab Rig’s Water Pipe Anatomy

A typical rig setup has three major parts:

  • The dome (a small glass chamber where vapors are collected).
  • The nail (which is heated to create vapors).
  • The downstem/slide (which connects to a larger water container).

Some rigs may also have two nails (a “double rig”) or even four nails. Some rigs have a built-in diffuser to cool the vapors before they hit your throat.

Choose Appropriate Style

Dab rigs are available in many different designs, determining their portability, comfort levels, and functionality. Carb caps are used with bangers to produce more flavorful hits by trapping the vapors inside the glass chamber before heating it.

Carb caps can increase the intensity of the hit by breaking bubbles so that you can inhale more vapors. Banger hangers are usually made of glass and have a large opening for an oil rig or nail that enables it to sit on top of a banger for easy access.

It does not come with its dome, which means you will need to get a nail and dome if you plan on buying a banger hanger. The nails for bangers are usually domeless titanium, quartz, or ceramic ones.

You want to make sure that you know how much space you have when assessing a dab rig for sale. If your dab rig is too big, it may be a deterrent to using one for faster sessions.

You should be able to hold the rig in one hand and its components in the other without any problems. But if you can’t, perhaps consider going for a smaller rig.

Efficiency

Aside from size, you also want to consider the efficiency of your dab rig. If it takes too much oil or wax to get results for your sessions, then it’s better to invest in a more efficient one. Efficiency is important because it helps save both material and money.

Versatility

Consider buying a dab rig that can heat titanium, glass, and ceramic nails. Each nail comes with different benefits for medical needs and smoking preferences.

One will give you a better flavor profile, while another one gives your more potent hits. These differences should help decide which one you want to go for, or you can still get a versatile dab rig that will allow you to switch between the different nails.

The Right Accessories

Always check if your dab rig comes with the right accessories and tools. These should include a dome, nail, carb cap (if needed), tongs (for handling), and more.

Some may come with cases, but this may depend on the brand. Make sure that your dab rig is not just good for one session. A dab rig should allow more than one round of smoking without having to worry about the flavor profile changing for lack of cooling down properly.

Wrapping Up

If you can’t get a standby rig, then consider investing in a dome that allows you to conserve the flavor profile longer.
