5 Ways Education Will Change by 2020

It’s 2017 and like any business sector, education is likely to go through a paradigm shift in years to come. So, if you are interested in knowing what these changes might be, then luckily you are at the right point of time to get the answer.

In this article, we’ll project the upcoming evolution of education through the eyes of innovators in the education sector.

Let’s find out how they see the changes in education in the next three years:

1.  There Will Be A Rise In Online Courses And Diplomas

With so many students living in debt, it is almost imperative that short courses, diplomas, and online courses will become the norm. The focus will be on competency-based programs and the competition among the students will be fierce.

Shanon May, co-founder of Bridge International Academies think “Diplomas granted by years in school are dominant certification of learning”. This trend will not stop anytime soon.

2.  Online Learning Will Reach To New Heights

The trend of online courses and MOOCs has been around for quite a while now. By 2020, it will take a completely different form. You no longer have to go to schools, colleges, and universities and sit in classrooms to learn.

All you need is an internet-connected device and you are good to go. With numerous inexpensive informal learning opportunities available to students, we might see the trend of e-learning skyrocket by 2020. There will be a change of approach even for those that require interpersonal communication such as a masters in special education. Although online learning will be done at the convenience of the learner, may it be at home or somewhere they prefer, skills will still be upgraded and lessons will be learned properly as every curriculum are prepared according to the student’s needs.

With websites like Khan Academy, Udemy, Coursera, Gooru, and PowerMyLearning, you can literally learn anything without leaving the comforts of your room. No matter if you need help with scientific projects or want to learn a new language; you will be able to accomplish any task in a more rapid manner through online learning platforms.

3.  Educational Institutes Will have to Adapt

For educational institutes to stay relevant in a highly dynamic world, they will have to adapt with fluctuation in the demographic. Changes in population in different regions in the world will force educational institutions to analyze the market demands.

For instances, China and India will be home to a big portion of world’s population and educational institutes will have to cater to their growing student’s population in order to achieve something substantial.

Educational institutions will have to listen to their students and prepare them for their future ahead. They will have to keep tabs on the population of their particular region as well as the industrial trends in order to effectively prepare the students.

4.  The Trend Of Vocational Schools Will Reach The Zenith

By 2020, we might see a new generation of vocational schools that will pave the way for lucrative careers. Even today, only a handful schools, such as Career Path High School in Utah and GPS education partners, are following this model.

More educational institutes will follow suite and we might see a network of schools and colleges that will offer skill-based education leading to successful careers.

Post-secondary career schools will also emerge and will offer individual working in a dynamic job environment where they can learn things quickly instead of spending years on full-fledged degree programs.

5.  There Will Be More Focus on Developing a Learning Experience

Come 2020 and the focus will be more on developing a learner experience (LX) for K-12 and schools will use the latest technology to deliver an immersive experience to the students.

Gone are the days when students had to sit in the classroom and listen to boring lectures. In 2020, the learning will be more engaging and practical. Students will get a personalized learning experience which will result in better effective teaching and better learning.

Final Thoughts…

There is no denying that education will not be the same in 2020 and we might see some interesting changes thanks to technology. Whether these changes can bring any big change in making the education easier and simple is yet to be seen.

However, one thing is for sure that we are going to witness some very changes in the education sector in the years to come.
