4 Reasons Why Should Businesses Implement Employee Monitoring Software

Unmonitored Internet usage by employees has become a hot topic of discussion and growing concern in every company nowadays. The management and human resource division of organizations are keeping a close eye on the time spent on computers by their employees.

A new tool has been discovered by human resource departments known as employee monitoring software to track and monitor the same. Whatever interventions are introduced in the company are mainly with two prime intentions, which are minimizing costs and improving productivity. If you want to make sure that your employees are using their maximum time on the company’€™s resources for the benefit of the company then employee monitoring software is what you need.

The aim is not to spy on every activity of the employees, but it is just a performance and activity measurement tool that facilitates better management control.

Following are the four broad advantages of installing employee web monitoring software for your business.

What does the tool do?

Every single keystroke of the employee is tracked by the employee monitoring tool. The software monitors and records Internet usage by employees including their activities on social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter. If at all employees are applying for jobs or browsing through job listings, even this can be tracked by the monitoring tool. Is it checking personal mails, doing online shopping or may planning holidays- all these unproductive activities are watched by the software? Other entertainment sites, which are commonly browsed by employees, include gaming sites.

Know the employees better

Getting to know about your employees’ browsing history will reflect their attitude and behavior. On the other hand, at the positive side you may also know about your employees’€™ ambitions and their opinion about workplace. So, not just for supervision but from the corporate growth perspective as well, this tool can add lot of value.

What employee information can you get?

Employee monitoring tools use a simple function called screenshot to monitor the internet usage by employees. The screenshot function has the capability to tell you which all sites have been viewed by the employee and in what order. The chatting details and the pictures that they saw- you can know all with this amazing tool. Now, you can get answers to the behavior of your employees and also know if there is any security breach happening by misusing the systems.

There is lot more than showing poor productivity

Apart from discovering where the employees’€™ official timings are getting directed, you can also track the internet usage linked with malpractices. If someone is browsing confidential files and sensitive data or attempting to steal some records from the system, the software immediately sends an alert, warning the administrator of the breach. You may not know the hidden hacker quality in some of your employees, but you can definitely bring them down if the company’€™s resources are jeopardized. This implies that the software takes care of the security aspect also.

When employees know that their activities are being watched, they become more cautious and avoid getting into unfavorable situations. Thus, such a tracking tool also improves the work focus of employees.

In a perfect world, this may not be necessary. Actually, if you have the right employees, you also may not need to monitor them. I think it really depends on the industry you work in, and whether sensitive information and data is being worked with. Either way, I also think it’s only right to let your employees know they’re being monitored if that’s what you decide to do. Being open and honest about all of your policies is the right course of action.

This can be a slippery slope, especially if you inadvertently catch personal passwords.
