The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), has deferred its decision on whether to give adult Web sites their own Internet domain until June 2010. The agency “initiated a 70-day process of consultations on the “.xxx” domain widely seen by some experts as the beginning of steps to assist parent block access of children to pornographic Web sites. At its meeting on Friday, ICANN’s board gave its Chief Executive and Chief Lawyer 14 days to recommend proposals for the agency to proceed before the commencement of a 45-day public debate preceding a final decision at Brussels in June.
I think ICANN will approve the .xxx extension at long run, because it is a good steps to assist parent block access of children to pornographic Web sites. And such sites can easily be identify by parent, children and everyone.
Not sure what the hold up is. This will help to differentiate websites.
I wonder why the hold-up as well, I think lots of people in the business of adult site will not like the domain extension to go live.
Possibly, but then I doubt if they will lose anything if they support the move.
I suppose the delay is to show that they don’t really “sanction” porn, like a moment of silence, but then it will proceed as is logical
