Apple TV 4
Launched on the 9th September 2015, in San Francisco, Apple TV 4 has created a lot of interest. “We believe the future of television is apps” was the selling point when the product was launched by Apple CEO Tim Cook.
So is this their new feature?
What versions are available?
The new Apple TV will be available in two versions, a 32GB model, and a 64GB model. Presently, the UK prices have not been released, however they are expected to be on a similar pricing as the US prices. Current US prices stand at $149 for the 32GB model and $199 for the 64GB model. For those looking to get a discount on the Apple TV 4, Couporando have voucher codes available to discount the purchase at http://www.couporando.co.uk/voucher-codes/apple.
The Apple TV 4 is expected to begin delivery in October, with many people trying to pre-order to ensure they have their TV as near to the release date as possible.
What are the features of the Apple TV?
One of the biggest features of the new Apple TV is a full-blown app store, just like your iPhone or iPad. Unfortunately, there are still a number of apps that will not be available on the Apple TV. It is thought that apps like Amazon Instant Video, Spotify and Pandora may not make it onto this release of the Apple TV. One of the interesting new features with the new Apple TV is the integration with Apple’s Siri voice-recognition system for search and device operation. The new Apple TV will also be released with a new remote control with a touchpad.
What are the potential pitfalls?
One of the downsides to the new Apple TV 4 is there is no mention of when the company’s TV service will be available on the TV. However, should you wish to watch a TV show or film, these are all available via iTunes, however you will have to pay for them. Apple TV is meant to deliver a number of channels over the Internet and compete directly against cable TV. It has been rumored to arrive sometime in 2016, however no firm date has been set.
Amazon Fire TV 2
Also going on sale in October, the Amazon Fire TV 2 is going to be a strong contender for the hot spot.
What are the features of the Amazon Fire TV 2?
One of the biggest selling points of the Amazon Fire TV 2, as it uses Amazon Instant Video all the movies and TV shows are free. You pay your £79 subscription to Amazon Prime and you have unlimited TV shows and films, unlike Apple TV where it is pay per view.
On the Fire TV you have the ability to get Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus and Vevo to name a few. The Fire TV does lacks HBO GO, so this could be a downside if this is a channel you often view.
There is also a remote for the Fire TV, which is also pretty handy. The Fire TV also features voice control. You can press the voice button on the remote and say the name of a TV show, movie, actor, director, or genre you want to watch and results are displayed on screen. However, voice search on the Fire TV only works in Amazon’s app.
One very important point to note is the storage capacity on the Fire TV 2, unlike the Apple TV, it has the ability to add a 128GB microSD, meaning you can expand your storage as the Apps expand.
What are the downsides to the Fire TV?
We struggled to find many pitfalls for the Fire TV, it was a good price for what it brings to the table. The only comments we could find was the Amazon Fire TV looks a little more outdated, when compared to the Apple TV.
