Those thinking about starting up a website for the first time should begin by coming up with a domain name that is not currently in use. After all this is the first step that will need to be taken in order to get the website started. A domain name is the URL or web address that will need to be entered in order to get to the desired website’s home page. Domain names can end in a .com, .org, .biz, or any number of extensions, depending on the particular website that is being created. Of course, not all website domain names are available; when one is in use, website creators may need to resort to another name or switch to a different extension.
When registering a domain name, website owners should determine how long they would like to purchase the domain for. Generally, website domains are purchased on a year-long subscription, though other options are available for varying prices. Most website owners these days stick with a year-long subscription and can obtain one for around $10 per year, depending on the specific company they used to register their domain in the first place.
Registering a domain does not take very long at all. For starters, the website owner will need to check for the domain’s availability by entering the desired domain name into a search bar. The system will then search to determine whether or not that domain is already taken. If it is, the user will need to choose another name; if not, then the user will have the opportunity to purchase it on the spot. Payment can typically be made via credit card online, though other payment options may be available.
Furthermore, when purchasing a domain, there are some other considerations that website owners may want to keep in mind. This includes whether or not the domain name comes with web storage or hosting, customer service, free e-mail address creation, and more.
Exploring the different domain registration sites out there and comparing what they have to offer is a good first step to take for those who are thinking about registering a domain name in the near future.
Domain registration is just the first step of many when it comes to launching a website. For those ready to register or curious to look up a domain, be sure to check out a website that offers this service, such as Register.com, to secure the desired domain.
