Leaked for Everyone to See
One of the most eagerly anticipated games of the decade has been leaked online. One member of the online forum Reddit claimed to have purchased the game two weeks before its release date for $1,250. This member has now gone and posted footage from the game online in a series of short snippets. These short online videos document different parts of the game, giving you access to the landscape, the characters and allowing you to see the visual intentions of the creators.
Daymeeuhn (the Reddit user who leaked footage of the game) also stated that he may not have necessarily completed the game, just that he’d reached the centre of the fictitious universe. Theoretically, there is still a lot more to do while in gameplay such as upgrading spacecraft and exploring unchartered territories.
Creator Sean Murray has pleaded with fans not to view the online videos and wait for the game to be released so they can experience it first hand. He explained that the anticipation was part of the aura around the game and that any spoilers need to be avoided.
The leak has also led to speculation that the game can be completed in under 30 hours, despite makers of the gaming claiming it would take hundreds of hours to finish. Players begin the game at the edge of the Universe, which has over 18 quintillion planets. The idea for gamers to reach the centre of the universe (a closely guarded secret).
Daymeeuhn has also stated that he didn’t use cheats or any special techniques to get to the centre. However, he explained that he significantly cut the time in which he made it to the centre by selling on items for large profit whilst in game play. The more profit he made, the quicker he was able to upgrade his warp drive, allowing him to make the expedition to the centre shorter.
Hype and Expectations
Since 2014 when the game was in production there has been massive hype about its release. Many gamers were being kept in the dark about the finer details of the game and until this leak they were probably looking forward to getting their hands on it come 9th August. Nevertheless, when the initial disappointment has dispersed and gamers have been playing it for weeks enjoyment will again set in. No Man’s Sky is supposed to be one of the most incredible gaming experiences of the 21st century and players will not be left disheartened.
