How to Switch Your Government Free Phone Service Provider

As a subscriber to the government’s free phone service, you’ll get many privileges like free calling, texting, and internet data. But, sometimes, the service provider may fail you by providing inefficient support. If you aren’t satisfied with your current provider, consider switching to another company.

You will find many organizations offering trusted government free phone service for both calling and texting purposes. But it would help if you switched your service providers by following some essential steps.

Find them below:

Contact the Present Phone Service Provider

Call and inform your current service provider that you want to apply for the transfer of service. They will ask you to fill a form to prove your eligibility.

Besides that form, they will also ask you to fill a brief form known as “Request for Change”. The filling up of this form helps your current provider know that you are about to choose a new service provider.

Remember, your old phone provider will continue the service until your switching is done.

Access the NLAD Website

After applying for the service transfer, log into the NLAD (National Lifeline Accountability Database) website. Then, click on the box that says, “Transfer NLAD Benefit.”Once you click on the box, they ask you to fill out your standard information for identification purposes.

Then, click on “Transfer Benefit”. Once they ask you to confirm that you genuinely want to switch phone providers, click “Yes”.

Reach Out to the Service Provider You Want to Choose

When you decide on your new government-free phone service provider, contact them directly. They will ask for crucial days to check the authenticity of your identity and process the application process.

You need to provide at least your full official name, date of birth, residential address, present telephone number, and verbal/written consent to switch your phone service providers. Besides this information, you need the last four digits of your Social Security number and an official statement that says that only one person in your home has a lifeline phone plan.

Look for Information on All Phone Service Providers

Search on the Lifeline website to get information regarding all phone service providers eligible to participate in the program. After you decide on the new service provider, contact them directly and provide them with all the information they ask for.

They can even ask for proof that you can take part in the Lifeline telephone program. So, keep all your documents handy, so you can provide those when the new phone service provider asks for the same.

Then, the new government-free phone provider will complete your application process and start offering you service. They will also contact your past service providers and inform them about starting your new service. Once they get a notification, they close your existing account and stop your service.

You should never have more than one service provider at a point in time. So, carefully follow the process of switching the phone service provider.

In a Nutshell

Remember, you can lose your chance of getting a new government-free phone service provider if you don’t follow the above-mentioned rules. However, a company may even decide not to assist you if you register for more than one provider simultaneously. So, don’t apply with multiple companies.

If your home has more than one Lifeline phone service plan, you may end up losing your Lifeline membership forever. It is one of the strictest rules that the government has enforced. The purpose is to provide phones to homes that require them. So, always remember that you can keep only one Lifeline phone in your home.

Follow the right process and enjoy seamless services from a service provider of your choosing.
