How to Make A Custom Mouse Pad Online in 9 Easy Steps

A mousepad is an essential accessory for anyone who uses a desktop computer. Sometimes a cool custom mouse pad makes the best office décor, so make sure yours looks great. Don’t bother with plants, string lights, or oil diffusers. Try something unique!

It’s a lot of fun to customize your mouse pad and bring your favorite visual to life. If you make it yourself, you can alter it to the required size to suit your needs and decorate it to match your desk area. Here I’ll share the nine easy steps to creating one online. Have a look!

What Are the Steps to Creating A Custom Mouse Pad?

Want to make a customized photo mouse pad online? Take a closer look at the different steps! You’ll need the right tools and supplies for this task, which isn’t difficult.

Step 1: Create the Base of the Mousepad

Choose the material of a mouse pad, such as leather, polyurethane, plastic, cardboard, etc., whatever you want. You should measure and cut the mouse pad to the size you desire. Mousepads are typically 8″ x 10″, but you can make them as big or small as you like.

Step 2: Switch to a Non-Slippery Base

While using their computer mouse pads, not everyone wants their mousepads to slide while they use them.

  • Use a shelf or drawer non-slip liner to prevent your mousepad from sliding. Cut it to fit around the mousepad’s base.
  • If you don’t have it, you may use glue instead of the adhesive liner.
  • Alternatively, you can use a rug liner if you so desire.
  • Tape your mouse pad after completing its construction. It will help keep your desk in place. Simple, household non-stick alternatives are available by simply applying double-sided tape to the corners of each pad.

Step 3: Select a Design

Select a design and buy some inkjet transfer papers. Creating a mousepad that fits your workspace is the highlight of the process. Decide whether it should be patterned, solid-colored, or photo-based.

Create Your Design Image in Step 4

You can design your image using different online software like Adobe, Paint Shop Pro, Canva Pro, etc. Try to find the best results; you need to choose a photo of at least 100K. It is possible to print a 25K image, but it will not be as sharp and crisp as a high-resolution image when blown up to 8×11.

Step 5: Run a Print Image Test (Optional)

Create a test print of your final image on a blank 8×10 piece of paper. Not just 1/4 of the 8×11 page is printed, but the entire page.

Check your image on cheap (transfer paper) blank white paper to ensure your printing is accurate and through all the heads in your printer. Epson printers are notorious for having clogged heads that leave horizontal lines throughout the print.

Step 6: Place the Transfer Paper in place

If everything went well with the test, you could now insert the transfer paper. Please ensure that you insert the printed side of the form correctly. When reversed, there is a loss of $2–$3. When the paper is oriented correctly in the printer, it is ready to print.

Step 7: Warm up the paper

Unless you are using a commercial heat press, you will need an iron and a sheet of transfer paper (with an image of 8×11). Let the paper dry for a few minutes. Iron will not exert as much pressure on the transfer paper as a heat press will.

The picture is burned into the pad during the heat press process, creating a pad that will last for many years to come. The iron will generate the right amount of heat but not as much pressure, so your mouse pad will flake off in bits or may fail in the future.

Carefully read the instructions. Make sure you read the instructions carefully that are included with your transfer paper. Be sure to note the required temperature. An average temperature is around 375 degrees, but this could differ depending on your paper manufacturer.

Heat the iron to that temperature. During the heating process, place the pad on a hard surface. It works well on an ironing board.

Step 8: Squeeze the mouse pad

Press the iron firmly on the pad with a back and forth motion while applying the transfer paper image. To get the best results, put some pressure on the place.

An ironing job performed lightly with a limp wrist will result in a poor pad. Consult the transfer paper instructions to find out how long to iron the paper. Generally, it takes between three and four minutes.

9th: Remove the transfer paper

Please read the instructions carefully when you purchase transfer paper. Start by peeling the paper away from one corner. Transfer papers may be cold or hot when you peel them.

Don’t stop halfway through peeling the paper; that will leave a line on the mouse pad. Make sure you do it steadily and evenly as you pull the paper off. It takes one long, even motion to peel the paper from the pad. It usually takes about 3 seconds to peel the paper off.

Sum Up

Creating a DIY mouse pad is as easy as clicking any button, but you need specific tools. Make sure you try them at your next event! Market your business without keeping your cards close to your chest.

It is just as beneficial to give away mouse pads as mugs, pens, and other promotional items. You can try Strumace for a vast variety of customized mousepads.
