How to Create a Romantic Date Night for Free

We all want to show our partners that we love them, it’s only natural. Unfortunately, there’s huge pressure on us from Hollywood movies and the like, to show them our love with extravagant gifts. Not everyone has the disposable income for that, but there are plenty of ways to show your partner that you care that doesn’t cost the Earth. In fact, there are plenty of ways that are completely free. Although financial tips don’t seem all that romantic, you might change your mind after this article! We’ve put together some ideas for the perfect, totally free, date night, so that you can show your partner just how special you think that they are.

Kick-Off With a Game

Putting on a bit of entertainment for the evening is always a good idea and there are plenty of ways that you can do it for free. If you and your partner are a little adventurous and love a card game, then a game of strip poker can be a fun way to kick things off, and there are even some guides that cover the basics even for beginners. If you’re a very physical couple then this will be a pretty relaxed bit of fun and if you aren’t, then it could be a good way to spice things up a bit.

For those who are a little more reserved, you could try playing a game of poker, or in fact any card game at all, and giving each other challenges depending on who wins each round. For example, if your partner wins the first round, they could ask you to give them a message, if you win the second, you could ask for a home-cooked meal one night that week. The card game format keeps it light and the challenges can make it as romantic as you’d like it to be.

Create a Treasure Hunt

You could write something you love about your partner underneath each note

This one requires quite a bit of forward planning but is oh so romantic. You’re going to make a treasure hunt for your partner, that can lead to whatever you fancy. It could lead to your game of strip poker, or it could lead to one of the later ideas. It’s up to you! You’ll need to make a series of notes that you can hide in a place that nobody except your partner will find them.

If they’re heading into work that morning then a cute surprise is to slip one of the notes inside their bag and only tell them at the end of the working day. The first note should lead them to the second, the second to the third, and so on. Some people might want to put cute things that they love about their partner on each note, others might like to hide them alongside a favourite type of candy, you can be as creative as you want. The only thing you need to remember is not to tell your partner anything about your plans ahead of time. That way they can really enjoy the surprise when they get to the final note.

Plan a Cheesy Movie Night

Everyone loves cuddling up on the couch and watching a great movie, but there are ways to make it a little more exciting. You know your partner better than anyone, so adapt the following tips to really suit them. Getting drinks and popcorn is always a fun way to start off a trip to the cinema and it’s super easy and super cheap to replicate at home. If you’ve already got soda in the fridge then you can do that part for free and enough popcorn kernels for two people will set you back less than a dollar.

Even better, homemade popcorn will make the house smell delicious! If you really want to achieve an authentic cinema experience, you can cut out popcorn tubs from any card that you have lying around. Once you’ve got the snacks sorted, it’s time to transform your living room into the perfect movie-viewing location. You might consider draping some bedsheets around the television in the style of theatre curtains, you might turn the couch into a pillow fort. Perhaps you’ve got a star projector so you can turn your lounge ceiling into the night sky and pretend you’re at a drive-through film. Use your imagination and your partner will appreciate it. Don’t forget that the film choice is important. There might be a film that’s special to you both, perhaps your first date at the movie theatre?
