Easy Guide To Choosing A Laptop

notebooks

When choosing a new laptop, it’s easy to get bogged down in technical terms, so that before you know it you’ve spent twice as much as you wanted to on something you don’t even need. With that in mind, here are a few things you need to consider before you make that purchase.

Size

The first thing to think about is where you’re going to be using your laptop, and what you’re going to use it for. If you’re just looking for a bit of web browsing and online shopping on the go, then a small 11-inch ‘netbook‘ is probably what you want. Fitting easily into a handbag or rucksack, it can be the perfect companion on a long train journey, allowing you to watch films and TV shows as well as keep up with social media.

On the other hand, if you’re going to be using your laptop for work you really want something a little larger, particularly if you’re going to be typing a lot. A full-size keyboard is going to save you a lot of wrist cramp if you’ve got thousands of words to chew through, so looks at models upwards of 15 inches. Also bear in mind that a very small laptop won’t have room for a DVD drive.

Power

Again, it’s a question of what exactly you’re planning on doing with your new laptop. As a general rule, higher price means better performance, but you can save a little by cutting out things you don’t need. Unless you’re planning on editing lots of video, you won’t need things like ‘dedicated graphics’, or much more than 4GB of RAM. Instead, focus on hard drive space – 1TB will let you store countless hours worth of films, TV and music, as well as leaving you plenty of space for other files.

Looks

This is the fun part. Gone are the days when a laptop was a grey slab that sat in a black bag, fashionable as a brick and twice as heavy. Flicking through the range of laptops at Very.co.uk, you can see just how customisable laptops are these days. From classic black to bold and bright shades and graphic designs, your laptop can match your style as well as your computing needs.
