Current SEO Industry Trends In 2013

Google-SEO

If you are a website owner, you need to stay on top of current SEO industry trends. Those marketers, who choose not to stay updated on these trends, will be left way behind in the SERPs. SEO service providers are on the top of the list that need to always be aware of new SEO mechanism changes. Likewise, the marketers who just recently took a big hit in rank during the Penguin and Panda algorithm updates know especially the importance of staying up-to-date with SEO industry trends. Below are 5 of the most current industry trends in SEO that every marketer should stay up-to-date on.

1. Algorithm Updates

Google is constantly changing and improving their algorithm which is almost guaranteed to affect your website PR, if you are not keeping up with the latest trends and constantly improving it. Although this does not affect the core concept of quality and original content, it does calculate the Authorship element. Today, the main focus is not just on websites but also on Authorship.

2. Local Listings & Reviews

As of late, Google has put a strong emphasis on its local listings and reviews. It has updated its functions to quickly identify content that is duplicated. Rather than using multiple regional top level domains for capturing local users in various locations of the world, you now can easily inform Google of your target audience which will assist in showing the same website in those areas. It saves you from needing multiple TLDs and having to spend on SEO for each separately.

3. Google+ Authorship

Although Google+ did not come in full force like many had hoped for; today it is increasingly rising in popularity and is now developing its own social network site which will hopefully turn out to be an impressive business tool online. One particular feature is known as Authorship, which enables you to link your company brand to your content using your account with Google+. This will help with plagiarism and will help to build a more reputable and credible brand online. Now, as people share your content and ideas, all the credit goes to you.

4. Quality Over Quantity

Back in the days when SEO was simple, keyword cramming, link stuffing and other tricks that were frowned upon would still gain you a high position in the Google results, however, after the Penguin update and ranking algorithm updates took place, quantity no longer matters as much with quality being the main focus. Nowadays, when you improve and develop content, quality is what you need to focus on. Forget about quantity! Content creation is more about providing value rather than spamming keywords and links.

5. Social Media

Definitely a current trend of today is social media and social referencing of your brand and URL’s through sites like Facebook or Twitter, as well as Google+, has a large influence when it comes to Google defining the popularity and authority of your website. Therefore, enhancing your social media presence and activity is likely to enhance your SEO and rank this year.

You covered it a little but in “quality over quality” but there is no question that quality content is king. You need to be making comments that gets people to engage. Kind of like how I’m engaging via a comment on this post right now 🙂

I hate these algorithm updates. Current search engine is fine the way it is. Instead of trying to improve result pages quality, it should probably work in improving the interface.

Google Authorship and Social media signals are the most significant factors which are considered in the ranking algorithm.
