Challenges Posed by the Online Examination System

Online exams are part of the digital realm we live in as part of the fast-paced evolution of technology. Nonetheless, the fact remains that evaluations conducted online are not only here, but they are here to stay. In such a situation, it only makes sense to examine the veracity of the claims of online exams, especially in the context of how much they stand to ease the education process. For starters, ever since the coronavirus pandemic hit the globe, online exams have proven to be a reliable means of ensuring continuity of education.

And despite the initial hiccups and challenges people all over the world faced, the fact remains that the world has now come to accept that online exams have a critical role to play in the context of education. But before we can explore the benefits this system has managed to offer, it is imperative first to understand the challenges it has and will continue to pose for at least some sections of the society. So, without further ado, here are some of the themes vital challenges the online examination system has been subjected to so far.

  1. Cheating: Exams, in general, are brimming with the scope of the fraud, hence the concept of invigilators to monitor students while they appear for exams, right? But how does one go about doing that with online reviews? After all, educational systems need to be sure that only their students appear for their exams. In addition to that, they also need to make sure that students do not cheat while appearing for exams online. Thankfully, the solutions on offer in the market thus far have tended to this concern rather well — empowering systems with myriad tools such as regular screengrabs, prohibiting the use of other windows and apps during exams, and more to tend to this particular challenge.
  2. Security: Security is generally a concern when dealing with anything digital, but just as it is rendered critical in, say, the context of financial transactions, providers for online exam management system have ensured the policies on offer in the market come equipped with relevant encryption abilities. It helps make sure that no data during the process is neither vulnerable to hackers, nor is it lost to glitches at any point.
  3. IT skills: No matter how well many stakeholders may have taken to it, the fact remains that not everyone has the skills requisite for ensuring optimum use of online exam systems. Hence, it is imperative to opt for a system that is easy to comprehend and master.

Any online exam management system one may choose is bound to come with its own set of unique challenges. Hence, the key to dealing with them lies in choosing a system that is agile and adaptive to both, your requirements’ as well as that of your students’.
