Not only is Google, the world’s leading search engine, king, most website owners know that quality content is king. If you desire to have your site or blog land high on Google for your niche, you must have an understanding of SEO. Search engine optimization or SEO is the techniques of configuring a website or blog to land high on Google (or other search engines) for the website or blog’s niche. When that happens, visitors can see your site immediately after they search and are, therefore, much more likely check into your site. When you get visitors, those visitors can convert into paying customers for your products or services. That’s the goal.
Hiring an SEO company is recommended to jump-start your site or blog with proper SEO techniques, but your secretary can accomplish this goal, as well. Here are five tasks your secretary can do to boost your SEO.
1. Include the Strongest Keywords and Keyword Phrases for Your Website
Before your secretary moves on with SEO tasks, he or she must ensure that your site or blog not only contains relevant keywords and keyword phrases but that they are as targeted as possible. That requires an understanding of who your niche and market is. Who do you wish to promote to? For example, let’s say you’re selling maternity clothing to a Chicago market. Two of your short tail keywords could be “maternity” and “Chicago.”
However, those two keywords are two broad to stand on their own. Therefore, it’s important that your site also contains long tail keywords such as “maternity clothing women Lincoln Park Chicago.” Longtail keywords are laser precise keyword phrases for your market. In the above example, you’re indicating that you sell maternity clothing for women in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago.
It’s important that your secretary checks for both short tail and long tail keywords, and that they are present in the title, subtitle, content and that the images and videos of the blog or site contain them as well.
2. Write Strong Organized Keyword Content
Another important part of your website or blog, when it comes to search engine optimization, is keyword rich content. But this is not content that can be copied or plagiarized. It’s also not content that is keyword stuffed, or that contains too many keywords. It needs to be original content, with a reasonable number of keywords, that will educate and entertain your visitors. Your secretary can research various topics that would be useful for your site.
For example, a maternity clothes website could feature not only articles about maternity clothes but other information such as pregnancy, prenatal and postnatal health, Lamaze classes, infant care, breastfeeding, baby clothes, baby accessories, or anything related to pregnant women. Do more than just sell maternity clothes. Make your site the go-to place for expectant mothers.
3. Use Internal Links
Internal links are links that go from one page of the blog or website to another page of the blog or website. Using the maternity clothes example, if you were to include a post titled “Get into These Fall Maternity Clothes Colors” and in that post, you were discussing washing maternity clothes, as well, if you had an article about laundering maternity clothes, you would link to that article from your maternity clothes colors post. This way you are encouraging readers to visit other places in your site. Have your secretary go through your blog or website and include as many internal links as possible.
4. Exchange Links with Top Sites or Blogs
Not only are internal links relevant, but external links are too. Your secretary can exchange links with top sites or blogs to bring more attention to your brand. Therefore, researching who your competitors are and who they are interacting with is important. You don’t necessarily want to link to a competitor, but you do want to pay attention to the companies they are linking to that are related to what you’re promoting. These are companies you’ll want to exchange links with, as well.
5. Get On Social Media Such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
In the 21st century not having a presence on social media is not an option if you are selling a product or service. Businesses today not only have websites and blogs, but they are also on social media because that’s where customers hang out. Your secretary’s job is to ensure that you’re on the most popular social media sites. However, it’s not necessary to be on all of them. Choose two to three of them for your focus.
To expand on the maternity clothes example, make sure your secretary gets you on Instagram and then have her manage your page. For example, your page would show off all of your latest maternity clothes additions so that potential customers can see what you’re offering. You cannot link within a post on Instagram, but you can link to your website or blog at the top of your page where you introduce your business. Be sure to include targeted keywords or keyword phrases in your introduction.
Search engine optimization is arguably the most important consideration for your business. But you don’t have to hire an SEO professional to get your site seen. With a real understanding of SEO, your secretary can be your SEO guru and bring your site into the spotlight.
