The Beatles’ back catalogue is finally being offered for sale on iTunes following several years of negotiations between Apple and EMI record label. This means that for the first time, people will be able to buy some of the Beatles most popular songs from Apple’s iTunes store.
While the popular band was formed about half a century ago, they still remain one of the top-selling music bands in the world with Neilsen SoundScan reporting that over 30 million albums were sold in the past decade alone, with total worldwide sales exceeding one billion albums. It is therefore no surprise that some experts are predicting even more success for The Beatles when digital sales are included in the next financial year.
Fans can purchase and download a single Beatles album for $12.99 (£10.99) each, with double albums costing $19.99 (£17.99) and individual songs, $1.29 (99p) each. Meanwhile, a comprehensive box set is available for $149.00 (£125.00). The special digital “Beatles Box Set” contains the 13 remastered studio albums with iTunes LPs and all mini-documentaries, “Past Masters,” and the “Live at the Washington Coliseum, 1964” concert film, a worldwide iTunes exclusive which captures the Beatles’ very first US concert in its entirety. In addition, Beatles fans can stream and view the “Live at the Washington Coliseum, 1964” concert film from iTunes for free for the remainder of this calendar year.
There are already reports that Amazon is responding to the Beatles iTunes debut by reducing its prices.
