5 Reasons Why You Will Not Make Money Blogging

money-from-bloggingWith over 500,000 blog posts everyday, blogging has truly become a global phenomenon. From Africa to Asia, Europe and America, many Internet enthusiasts are turning to blogging as a way of communicating with the outside world. However, there are still many out there who turn to blogging as a means of making money online. While it is not an impossible task, relying on blogging as a source of income is not as easy as it once was. A few years back, when blogging was not so popular, one could still maybe guarantee that an average blogger could make a few dollars or pounds a day. However, the stake is much higher today and the competition is rife.

In addition to competition, there are five major reasons why you might not make money blogging.

  1. Motivation: what is your motivation? Many bloggers get it wrong these days because the foundation is not right. One of the worst mistakes you could make as a prospective blogger is to become one just  because you want to make money. Simply logic suggests that the most successful bloggers today are those who are motivated by passion. I hear many would-be bloggers looking for a niche that would “sell”. You do not need to find the “right” niche as non is financially secure. With over one billion Internet users Worldwide conducting over one billion searches everyday on Google alone, any niche has a potential of becoming successful as long as the foundation is right.
  2. Impatience: not very much needs to be said about patience or lack of it. I recently bookmarked a blog, which was obviously new, because I enjoyed reading some of its articles. However, a few months later the blog appeared to have been abandoned by its owner. Nowadays it is becoming increasingly more common to find ill-informed bloggers abandoning their blogs after only a few months due to the disappointment of not making any money from it.
  3. Poor Content: a blogger who does not take the pain of writing interesting content should not expect to reap any dividends from blogging. Simply writing a couple of sentences per post will not be sufficient enough to justify the desire for making money with a blog.
  4. Lack of Originality: plagiarism aside, copying and pasting contents from other bloggers will not suffice. Too many bloggers rely solely on free article Web sites for their content. You can become more original by find a niche that you are comfortable with and posting original content from time to time.
  5. Greed: would you buy a tire for a car that has not been purchased yet? It is not so difficult to find blogs that have been created with the sole aim of making money – such blogs are littered with advertisements. Some even go as far as bombarding Web pages with Adsense, AdLinks, Kontera, Chitika and “Place Your Ad Here” banners, in one go without considering the consequences.

So then, the next time you think about making money online, think twice before you choose blogging. While it may happen in the long run, it is not the sure way to fame and fortune that many make it out to be.

Talking Point

What do you look out for in a blog? Do you think adverts are obtrusive or are they so common these days that you just generally ignore them? What motivated you to become a blogger?
