Nintendo Unveils DS Replacement

As Microsoft announced that a new, slimmer and more powerful Xbox 360 console that comes with a Wi-Fi and 250 GB HD will be launched this week at the same price as the old system, Nintendo released a new 3D handheld gaming device at the E3 games show in Los Angeles. The new device, Nintendo 3DS, can show 3D images which can be viewed without 3D glasses and the organisation hopes that it will replace the current Nintendo DS.

The 3DS also comes with two camera lenses to make it possible for users to take and view pictures in 3D although Nintendo has had to change its graphics system to cope with the incompatibility between 3D projection and touch-screen technology. As a result, the top screen displays 3D pictures while the lower screen uses touch-screen functionality. Furthermore, the 3DS will include a new feature described as the ‘always-on wi-fi connection’ which will automatically feed levels and updates to players.

Some of the game titles that will be available when the new handheld gaming device goes on sale, in late 2010, are Kid Icarus Uprising, DJ Hero 3D, Saints Row: Drive-By, Resident Evil Revelations, Batman, Assassin’s Creed Lost Legacy and Metal Gear Solid.
