Doodle Jump, a platform game by Lima Sky for the iOS, BlackBerry, Nokia S60 and Android, is making waves around the world particularly in the United States with a reported 28, 000 downloads a day and over 5 million sales. While this might not come as a surprise to Doodle Jump game players, others find its success a little bit surprising especially considering the fact that the main character, a four-legged creature named “Doodler” looks pretty simple and the game itself is generally not attractive in terms of its look and design.
Described as “insanely addictive”, many American iPhone users of the game insist that Doodle Jump is the most popular of all the more than 225 thousand apps available on the Apple App Store today. This is perhaps backed by news that both Igor and Marko Pusenjak (the brothers behind the game) are estimated to have raked in over $3.5m from downloads, after putting the 25% cut that goes directly to Apple from sales into consideration.
Thus, the success of Doodle Jump has led some observers to predict that the Pusenjak brothers will start their own independent game application business sooner rather than later. However, the question remains that why is Doodle Jump – the game which has taken America by storm, ever so popular?
Meanwhile, Doodle Jump 1.21 update is now available for purchase and download on iTunes with two updates in one – iOS4 multi-tasking and “an EPIC” underwater theme which has both funny and frightening sea monsters and beautiful coral reefs.
