Apple Marks App Store’s 10 Billionth Download With $10,000 Gift Card

applelogoApple has announced on its Website that its popular app store has reached the 10 billionth downloads mark. The result has been mostly attributed to the success of the iPhone smart-phone device which was launched in 2007. More recently, the App Store has been boosted by iPad users and boasts of over 350,000 different programs for the iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone.

According to Apple, the 10 billionth user to download an app, Gail Davis of Orpington, Kent, in the United Kingdom, who downloaded a free game app called Paper Glider, would be presented with a $10,000 gift card to the iTunes store (which now offers TV shows and movies, in addition to digital music files). The Apple app store is widely seen as  one of the major reasons why Apple has a major edge against its competitors in the tablet and smart-phone market due to the wide availability of programs and applications.
